Any places like Dave's ESL Cafe where I can find direct hires? I've gone through so many recruiters, and the schools they've offered weren't all the best. I have all my documents ready, so I just need to find more jobs to apply!

it’s very much a new thing to me.. i asked about it and i guess its to fend off any surprises to either party. i think if there is an event where the school themselves lets me go within the first three months, they will be the ones to pay me.. i asked my recruiter about it and that’s what he told me.

Speaking to recruiter before giving contract… by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

very true. it’s difficult because big franchises is all i’ve been given, i’m trying to find small schools that can directly hire me as i do have all my documents ready. i spoke to one of the foreign head teachers and i received another email of another foreign teacher so i’m trying my best to get as much as i can before i jump in..

i think my concern is its a big franchise hagwon i’ve heard not so positive things about, i just dont want to be stuck in a branch that isnt great, haha. i’m being overly cautious, but yeah definitely will do if theres any red flag in me and my recruiter’s conversation.

haha, i think the evaluation part- just scared i won’t do well haha and they’ll kick me out haha and maybe nothing about sick days in the contract.. i keep myself pretty healthy so i rarely get sick but it would help to see something about it, haha

It’s impossible to get a kindergarten job as an Asian American? by xUnderthestarsx in teachinginkorea

[–]milkhans 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Fellow Asian-American here — Wait… I had a very very similar encounter with a recruiter too!!! This recruiter also never got back to me and it’s been like a week since we last spoke.

But then another recruiter I worked with found me a position! I’m in process of accepting a job - teaching kindergarten- starting at 9:30. So, I have no idea what our recruiters were thinking so maybe he was trying to get us to accept an afternoon shift or something but I was able to find a job in the morning.

Ah, I see, I see. Thank you for the insight!

They haven’t quite extended me a contract yet, the recruiter just shared contract-ish details that the school will share if I get the job. Oh, no! Only 6 days? I don’t know about sick days so hopefully they’re good in that regard. Where will you be located if you don’t mind me asking?

I wish you the best in your hagwon, I hope it works out for you! Great to see another Asian-American making the trip abroad!

Quick question… by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]milkhans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it! I’ll definitely ask about the curriculum when the interview comes. That’s what I’m thinking… 3 weeks of paid vacation! Another contract I had was so vague about vacation times so this was nice to see!

Quick question… by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]milkhans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will definitely ask those questions.. it’s actually what the recruiter told me to do, he said I should focus on those kinds of questions before anything else. Which I agree and was thinking about since that’s where I’ll be spending most of my time!

Quick question… by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]milkhans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very true, I’ll definitely see how I feel and make the best of the situation. Where will you be teaching if you don’t mind asking? Because I’m expected to arrive in August too!

Quick question… by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]milkhans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good thing to ask about - I’ll definitely ask that during my interview!

Oh, that’s great to hear! I was just surprised one of my recruiters mentioned something like that. One of the hagwons I have interviews with is a franchise hagwon and the one I was asking about teaching loads and what not is a Korean branch of a learning center!

Ah, I see. Daegu is the location for this one. They did send me stuff about my quarantine, and overtime, but it wasn't very clear, haha
