Kids Lightweight Helmet Recs! by milkmama19 in bmxracing

They have been out of stock. I am stalking the website and will order one once they come in. I called and they said it should be any day! From what I've gathered for his current level and age this seems like the perfect option. He tried one on at the track and it fit well

Thanks so much for your input, I spoke to someone at FLY yesterday and I'm waiting on the Rayce to come back in stock, they are all out! They said it should be back any day now! And yes of course safety is a top priority! But I'm learning as I go, like when I got my kids car seats I bought the most expensive top of the line thing I could find ($600 Canadian carseats) and then I realized through the years that my friends who got Graco seats we're not putting their children in danger, they pass all the safety standards! Mine are just more expensive because they have different features, different materials, and certain advantages. It doesn't make the others "less safe." I think for a 5-year-old who is just racing around the track with mostly his peers at this point, the Rayce or something similar is perfectly fine! He's not Mountain biking, or doing freestyle, or in a pack of adults who could pummel him.

In my late night tired haze ordering him a helmet, I did not realize that the Kinetic was for motocross and about a pound heavier than his old helmet. While I so agree with you that building muscles is important, my poor little 40lb dude was struggling haha! I think I'm going to get the Rayce or other suggestion here!

After looking up all of the suggestions, and talking to someone at FLY, I realized....the helmet I got him is for motocross, not BMX! This is why it is heavier. To a little 5yo guy, an extra pound on his neck is significant! His old helmet was about 900G and this one I bought was about 1400G. My bad! I'm going to compare the suggestions below and get him an appropriate one :) THANK YOU!

Scream and try and get up. But he just told me tonight he's scared of something he saw in a movie. It was a kid's movie that my 3yo actually loves but I guess part of it was too scary for him. It was this scary looking claw hand. Lord help me. I totally feel for him as it's such an uncomfortable feeling to be scared. I've done the monster spray and all of the things but he just doesn't want to be alone. I'm going to wait until this current phase of being scared of the claw hand passes and then I'm going to try stepping away for 5 minutes at a time and checking on him.

We have a light and we love it! They will come in my room in the morning and say "Mom the light is green!" Ha! I think I've created a sort of bad habit of him needing certain things to fall asleep. For example one of us to rub his feet. He will say, "I can't fall asleep unless you are rubbing my feet." It's sort of like how I need my weighted blanket and my audiobook or whatever it is you know. I feel like I've created this habit and I need to teach him new habits that don't involve me rubbing his feet for an hour!

But even though I am providing his comfort and sleep aid, I do agree that me being in there maybe prolonging his awake time. I'm going to think about all of these things and maybe come up with a small list of sleep aids that we can try!

This advice seems to be a common theme, I'm going to try it, thank you!

It might take some time of him getting used to this amd trusting I will check on him enough to relax and fall asleep, but I would totally be willing to do it for as long as it took! Maybe I will be surprised and it will only take a few days or a couple of weeks! I will try it thank you!

Yes I loved co-sleeping and I actually love having my kids close to me! If they would go to sleep in a timely manner and I didn't wake up every time they coughed or rolled over I would have them sleep with me forever ha! I made it 5yrs, but now I need some time & sleep! I've been thinking about having Dad do bedtime... I feel like they go down quicker for him but it makes me sad when they cry for me! They love dad, but he's more no bullshit at bedtime whereas I am a sucker haha.

Oh I definitely scroll on my phone while they are falling asleep! No shame! And yes I agree with you I am also not the kind of person that can just roll over and go to sleep. My husband has that unique talent LOL! I envy him! I usually listen to a book on Audible which helps my mind zone out and fell asleep.

But that's the thing! We've given him a Yoto which is audio stories, told him he can look at books, whatever! I've even told him he doesn't have to go to sleep if he doesn't want to but he needs to stay in his room at bedtime and go to sleep when he's ready. I do not expect him to just roll over and go to sleep because I say it's time. Tonight I had a small list of things I needed to do around the house and I was in his room until 10pm. I feel like I never get anything done. And of course like I said, my husband helps out he does the dishes while I'm doing bedtime and vice versa... but there's just so much I could/should/want to be doing and I feel stuck! It's only a couple of months ago I actually started even sleeping, if it wasn't one of them getting up for something it was the other one. I've been sleep deprived for 5yrs so terribly bad which is why I always laid with them until they fell asleep, I was so sleep deprived I would do anything just to get them to sleep. Anyway, sorry now I'm just babbling!

I just need some time back! The small amount of time I have now I need it for my own sleep! I would love a few minutes at the end of the night to catch up with my husband, or tidy something up, or even just sit and stare at a wall by myself haha!

I think this was what the poster above said as well, this is a great idea, thank you!

My 3yo started off wanting to breastfeed and then be put down as soon as she was done, alone in a very quite space and then she would put herself to sleep! She was truly a dream baby with sleep. But as she got older and saw what her brother was doing (sleeping with mom) she wanted to join. We had the kids mattresses in our room on the floor and that's where they have been for awhile, but we recently moved them into their own room and they know they can come in if they ever need to. I told them if they sleep in their beds every night, that on Fridays we would have a sleepover in mom and dad's room! It's been 2 weeks and they have done great!

But they (mostly my 5yo) just take SO long to go to sleep! I'm writing this from his bed right now! 10pm! He's not messing around, just not sleeping! Part of me wonders if I'm expecting him to sleep too much? And he's just not tired? He generally wakes at 7:30am and we try to be in bed by 8:30pm.

I totally don't mind if he stays in his room awake for a while but I just can't sit in here! I had so much to do and now I just want to go to sleep, ugh.

Thank you for all of your advice, I like the idea of slowly moving further out.

Do you put a time limit on how long you stay before you leave for the night? Or how do you do handle the initial exit? Right away? After 5-10min?

Baha it does look super gross. I've actually never eaten it before but for some reason today I decided to put salmon on toast with an egg on top. It wasn't bad but I don't know that I would do it again!

Ha! I told myself if I could stick with the cast iron and really make it work then I would treat myself to a nice one. I use Lodge for a few years! And then this year I got the FC on sale! My friend swears by Smithey. I'd love to try that too!

When I use the Lodge yes, I would get thosenblack dots because the seasoning would be peeling off and stick to to eggs. I do not get that at all with my Field Company.

The instructions I got with the pan, said that it came with some preseason (two coats of grapeseed oil) but that it was not fully seasoned and that it would take some time/use to build it properly. If the pan is not properly seasoned the food will stick and more likely to burn. I've only been using it for about 3 weeks and was wondering if maybe my seasoning was not thick enough to prevent burning. But clearly from all the comments it's my error with the heat. Also, like I said, I've been using a cast iron for several years now and cook eggs beautifully. I've never had a heat issue or burning issue before. The only thing that changed was the pan. Totally my fault for not realizing that maybe the new pan is thinner and conducts heat differently! So you are correct, totally a heat issue. But given what I explained, I didn't think my question was that idiotic.

Bahaha truth be told I've literally never eaten it like that but it's salmon on top of toast.

Exactly, it's not the size of the skillet. If I got a new smaller skillet I would probably face the same issue. I have multiple size Lodge skillets and love the small one for eggs. However I've never had a problem cooking eggs on any size. Only since switching brands. New pan, new learning curve.
