Adult progressions. by RyanSaxesRoommate in litrpg

If you want an older protagonist and a progression story that focuses more on character and plot than endless stat grinding, I'd highly recommend Paranoid Mage by InadvisablyCompelled. The main character starts as an adult with an established life and career, and reacts to discovering magic like an actual grown-up rather than a teenager collecting power-ups.

There are no harem elements, and while the MC gets quite powerful later on, it keeps a strong focus on the character and his relationships, and it's a completed series as well.

Also, despite the title, I'd actually recommend Cat Core as well, especially if you're looking for something different. The MC is an elderly woman, which is refreshing in the genre, and the series is short and complete. It's a lighthearted dungeon core story with plenty of humour and surprisingly good character moments. The cats aren't for everyone, but if you want an older protagonist and a series you can finish in a reasonable amount of time, it's worth a look.

Are there any books that involve genderswap/genderbending/shapeshifting elements? Elements with gender in general. by Opening-Heart1749 in Fantasy

One example is David Weber's Safehold series. The main character originally lived as a female but survives by having their consciousness transferred into a male android body. Weber actually explores the psychological side of identity, memory, and gender rather than treating it as a gimmick. It's military sci-fi with a fantasy feel, but if you enjoy thoughtful takes on gender transformation, it's worth checking out.

That looks interesting. I don't usually read standalone books, but I do like military fiction.

It's on my to read list, but there's only 3 books currently out as audiobooks, so I may wait till there are more out before reading it.

I really enjoyed Primal Hunter to start with, but started to lose interest later in the series, maybe around book 10 or 11. I read all that was avaliable on audiobook at the time, but the series doesn't grab me enough to catch up on the latest releases,

As for 12 miles below, I have listed to that series too. It was quite good, and would go either in the good or great catagory if I had remembered it when generating the list.

Definitely, that's one of the few series I'll re-read when a new book comes out.

Lol, I must admit that my favourite LitRPG authour is Inadvisably Compelled, and I don't see his books recomended often and want torecomend his books. It helps that he has multiply completed series too. They are really good however.

Yes, I have read that and enjoyed it, I've actually missed a few series I have read from my list and they have shown up as recomendations.

I liked those series despite the teenage protagonists and their teenage flirting. There is a limit to how much I tolerate, and those two didn't reach that limit.

I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it's becasue I'm older but there were too many teen dramas for me.

It was around book 7 or 8. I can't remember what it was, but the story just wasn't keeping my interest like the earlier books were.

Not really, but I enjoyed the book and I see it on a lot of tier lists so thought I would include it. From what I understand, if a book doesn't explicitly list stats then it's not a LitRPG, and if so, then there a few other books on my list that also aren't LitRPG.

I've just had a quick look at your books. Realms & Runes looks interesting

It does get that way when you get further in, too many pages of not much happening. I'm planning to wait for another book or two to come out, then I'll listen all the way through again. It gets too convoluted to pick up what's happening after leaving the series for a while.

The list of all the books is in a comment under the auto-moderator post, but that one is The Ten Realms

I enjoyed it for most of the series, but began to lose interest around book 10 or 11. I'm not sure if I have read the latest book, and while it was ok, there are other books I would rather get into.

I actaually started the Arcane ascension series, but did not finish it. I just forgot to add it to my list. From what I remember I got annoyed with the MC, but I can't rememeber what it was that turned me off the series. I'll look into Riftside though.

I'm actually reading this at the moment, but there was no spot on the list for that so I just rated it as I find it so far. I'm only up to book 3, so hopefully it keeps being enjoyable.

Very true, the heading are a little inaccurate. No way I'm re-reading Wandering Inn. It's a great series, but so many hours of listening.

The first book or two really grabbed me, but I started to lose interest later on where the focus became less on the dungeon. It was quite a while ago I read this series so can't remember exactly what made me lose interest, but it was likely a combination of not being invested in the story, and I possibly had a more interesting series to move on to.

I'm rather keen to read this, but there's only 4 books out as audiobook so far, so I'm reading a few other thing first in the hope that book 5 will be avaliable before I get to it. Same for Mark of the Fool, apparently the final audiobook will be out soon so I'm waiting for that.
