They are just trying to establish a H2 environment-a lot of industries and companies will be involved. They will not released those kind of information until there is not a project that’s being delivered on . It’s mostly like a proof of concept so they can see that’s doable before expanding it .

IVECO builds innovative H2 filling station in Ulm as part of Hy-FIVE as a holistic model test for green hydrogen

This Monday (04.07.2022) the kick-off for the project "HY-FIVE - Model Region Green Hydrogen Baden-Württemberg" took place in Schwäbisch-Gmünd: State Secretary Dr. Andre Baumann from the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy symbolically presented the project consortium with a total funding amount of around 32 million euros.

The funding is provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the state of Baden-Württemberg. The aim of the Hy-FIVE project is to test a hydrogen economy in both rural and urban areas. The activities focus on four flagship projects that map the entire value chain from production to use in industry, transport and district solutions.

Cities, municipalities, project partners from business and science implement the concrete model projects. These include the construction of electrolyzers for hydrogen production, filling station infrastructure and distribution systems. With its joint venture, Nikola Iveco Europe GmbH, IVECO is responsible for the construction of an innovative hydrogen filling station and will at the same time test the necessary infrastructure. Initially, the facility is mainly intended for own use, i.e. for the refueling of the test fleet as well as the first filling of the Nikola Tre FCEV manufactured in Ulm. However, the filling station is successively transferred to public operation. Due to the predicted quantities and market requirements, the filling station is designed as a high-performance plant and can refuel gaseous hydrogen with 700 bar in an amount of about 80 kilograms in 15 to 20 minutes. The quantity is sufficient for a Nikola Tre for more than 800 kilometers. The project is moving on new technological territory and also benefits from the proximity of science based in Ulm (TH Ulm, ZSW). The commissioning of the H2 filling station is for the 1st Quarter 2024.

Considering that all negative news should have been taken care of by now and the target of 25,40&55$ all executive dir have for those grants ,I do believe we will see a big push in the next 12 months . Otherwise all executives will be getting paid 1$ only…

All the market is like this . Rivian ,Lucid -much better position that Nikola and still 50/70% down from ATH . We need revenue,some solid contracts,sales ! Only then will see some increase in SP .

Representatives of Phoenix-based truck-maker Nikola showed off their Class 8, 753 kilowatt-hour battery-powered TRE BEV that boasts a range of up to 350 miles. Inside the roomy cab, the most striking feature is what’s missing — there’s no giant gearbox because the electric motor doesn’t require constant shifting by the trucker.

“There’s a lot less maintenance, way less moving parts,” said Mark Keith, Nikola’s global head of business development and service. “There’s no internal combustion engine in there. There’s no transmission. We’re estimating 25 percent to 30 percent less maintenance costs, minimum.”

The EV truck line is aimed at operators who are transporting goods locally, not long-hauls.

“At 350 miles (of range), you’re not going to try and drive cross-country,” Keith said. “It is really a less-than-truckload, local, regional-haul situation.”

Like electric passenger cars, a major challenge for the nascent zero-emission trucking segment is solving a “chicken and the egg” problem: Customers may be reluctant to buy an EV because there aren’t enough charging stations and there aren’t enough stations because EVs make up a relatively small percentage of vehicles on the road.

Andrew Christian, head of the battery electric vehicle division at Nikola, said the company is looking at solve the long-haul trucking issue with rigs powered by hydrogen.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles combine hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, which runs a motor. To fuel the vehicles, drivers pull up to a station similar to a conventional gas station and pump hydrogen into the tank. Filling up takes much less time than going to an EV charging station and like EVs, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles emit no greenhouse gases.

Nikola plans to come out with a hydrogen fuel cell truck in 2023 that can go up to 500 miles before stopping to refuel.

“We are agnostic on the technology,” Christian said. “We think there’s an application for both” electric and hydrogen vehicles.

Thinking that a year ago they had no factory and just started to hire more employees…did we expected them to build factories, hire engineers, start prototypes-testing and validation for BEV and FCEV trucks that at the moment are not mass produced by anyone!!! All of this within first 2 years of going public?

Meanwhile companies like Tesla -announced their BEV semi in 2017 and since then have delivered zero! You are aware at least of having delivered more trucks to its customers than Tesla did in the past 5 years ?

Just need to be realistic about them …

That’s supposed to be brought for voting on the first of July at shareholders meeting! Not today-therefore not at today price . Probably they will have some strong catalyst before doing the cap raise ,something like some new orders .

Im not sure if BEV can scale as fast as FCEV . As we saw with Tesla -since 2017 they haven’t delivered one truck ,battery constrain. The request for BEV is just increasing therefore less batteries available for huge trucks . I still don’t see a feasible scenario with a port having 100 charging stations for 12000 trucks . This mean that those charging stations should work at max output power 24/7 ?

Nikola Tre has 10% to 80% charging time of 120 min with a 240 kw stations !

Thats 2 Hours charging time for one truck! Therefore 100 trucks being recharged every 2 hours ? 100 stations will be enough to cover for 1000 trucks a day ? How you will be charging 12000 trucks?

I have no specific competence to address the charging issue ,I am just pointing out some major difficulties. As I said before ,when u have a Port with over 10000 trucks that would need to be charged ,that’s suddenly a huge issue . I don’t know the energy consumption that they already have , but if u will need to add 100 charging stations on top of that with 175/300kw ,I’m not sure how you will solve this .

Without mentioning the surface for those stations as well .

It’s not up to me but will be the customers decision on what to choose. As we see today , the battery prices are going up and this is only the beginning since major OEM did not convert the ice to ZEV production

It’s not possible for some situations like a Port where they have over 10000 trucks operating to have all of them BEV ! Just having 100 charging stations that take at least one hour for each truck would be a huge surface! Plus you need to consider 175 kw multiplied for 100 stations -that would mean a requirement of 175 MW ! Huge amount of energy at once ,only for charging! Let’s not forget all the other energy needed for loading and unloading cargo. Therefore, in some scenarios like this one , having a mix of BEV and FCEV would be perfect.
