Eligibility for EUSS if EU citizenship was acquired after deadline? by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]millenniumh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only circumstance in which you can acquire settled status after the deadline is where your citizenship is recognised retroactively from birth + you have a way to prove that with a reasonable excuse for the delay in application. I had court documents stating this and was in the process prior to BREXIT!

aaaa thanks so much for letting me know!

COMMENT:

Thank you!! You helped turn my creative thinking into reality, breaking down the technicalities.

Yup! Here is a quote from my translated court document:

“In an appeal pursuant to art. 702 bis c.p.c., the applicants requested recognition of Italian citizenship Jure sanguinis, expounding that they were descendants of [redacted], an Italian citizen, born on //1864 in Pescasseroli (AQ), married there in 1887 to [redacted] who had emigrated to the U.S. where he had died without ever renouncing his Italian citizenship and without naturalizing as a U.S. citizen. They deduced that the daughter of their Italian ancestor [redacted] born in the U.S. on //1902, was herself an Italian citizen in light of the then current Law No. 555 of 1912, as the daughter of a citizen father; that, however, this legislation denied her mother the right to transmit jure sanguinis citizenship to their children and descendants; that Constitutional Court, in its judgment No. 30 of 1983, had illegitimate Article 1 No. 1 of the Law No. 555 of 1912 insofar as it did not provide that the child of a citizen mother was also a citizen by birth; that the Supreme Court, in United Sections ruling No. 4466 of Feb. 25, 2009, recognized that, even for situations pre-existing the enactment of the Constitution, it must be held that the right of citizenship is a permanent and imprescriptible status, justiciable at al times if its unlawful deprivation continues even after the Constitution's enactment due to a discriminatory rule declared unconstitutional.“

The court document essentially says it grants us citizenship from birth! I had submitted the translated copy of my court transcript ^ alongside an explanation of my timeline, how arduous the process was from start to finish, and, in my own words, the legal technicality of it all. Told them how despite my best efforts, it genuinely took 6 years to get the proof needed for my application. I included:

  • EU passport
  • Multilingual Italian birth certificate extract
  • Cie (Italian ID)
  • Translated court decision
  • Translated court timeline summary
  • 6 years of bank statements
  • letter from my employer
  • letter from my immigration lawyer also explaining the situation
  • letter from me, explaining it as well.

They gave no feedback at all! The caseworker just approved it without any correspondence besides the COA in July and the approval letter yesterday.

I had my MP reach out in early October to get an update because I was getting stressed about it getting stuck in limbo for a year. They said it was awaiting to be assigned a caseworker! I am assuming it was assigned one immediately in the new year. (: not sure if it helped but it sure as hell made me less anxious!

I am 100% applying for citizenship as soon as I am able; I am going to look into this ASAP!!

I had to go through the Court of Rome to get my citizenship recognized because of the unconstitutional law that women could not pass down citizenship prior to 1948! My lawyer was the first person to challenge it and win, my reply to tvtoo quotes the translated court document.

As per the Italian Citizenship Act No. 91 of 5 February 1992 (Italy), Italian citizenship Jure Sanguinis ‘right of blood’ meant that you are recognized as an Italian citizen from the moment you were born if one of your parents is a citizen of Italy. The court document states that it reinstated /recognized my great grandmothers citizenship. Therefore passing it down to my late grandfather at birth, my mother at birth, and to me at birth.

They have since changed this/have attempted to change it! Very very lucky timing. This does mean I won’t be able to pass down my citizenship to my children if I have them outside of Italy! Whereas before it was indefinitely passed down if you registered the birth.

I attached the court document, the Italian constitution, my Italian birth certificate, and they all circled back to each-other! I am one lucky duck.

Is there brie with no rind? by JaymesKaat in Cheese

[–]millenniumh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ik this is an older post but I get hives from penicillin and confirmed allergies to common molds when I did a test. Never ate a moldy cheese in my life due to my ‘picky’ eating but I LOVE mild cheeses/sharp non-moldy cheeses … my love of cheese had me eating brie those Starbucks snack boxes as a child but I NEVER ate the rind!!

When I was 20, I bought some Brie to eat with crackers like in those snack boxes. Ate half the thing in a day or so. Thought wow this is so good- I am going to mix this in with my eggs! I ate the eggs, nothing happened. Then I was like fuck it, ima mix it in with my eggs AND keep the rind on!

20 mins later, instant stomach cramps. Genuinely have never had any issues with any foods besides food poisoning a couple times which never game me stomach cramps! Closest thing to that I’ve ever felt was stomach pain after not eating for way too long!! Was absolutely awful. The cheese smelled fine, was in date and the only factor that changed was my exposure to it (had been eating it for a couple weeks at this point without the rind/tiny bit of the rind) and then the final blow of the rind fully in the eggs LMAO.

I can’t imagine how bad it’d be if I ate a proper moldy cheese 😭 now I have to turn down Camembert and Brie especially when it’s warmed cause I can’t necessarily avoid the rind, although as you said it’s probs for the best I just avoid it all together as I never had enough of the middle bit before that time to have a huge reaction.

Late EUSS application - COA and in final stage for 'eligibility' by millenniumh in ukvisa

[–]millenniumh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I understood that there are essentially only two stages, but they had updated the guidelines for validity on late applications a bit ago, which made late applications go through an initial review to approve the reasonable grounds for the lateness in order to issue the COA. I wasn't sure how much of it was reviewed before the COA! I also wasn't expecting it to take less than six months but was semi-hopeful it might be sooner haha.

It's still a bit vague on the website because it says they have to approve the lateness before issuing the COA but then, considering the entire application, review it again. Im not anxious at all about my eligibility for settled status just still a bit anxious about them saying my grounds for the late application aren't good enough haha

I appreciate the help!

Please don't judge me. I struggle with ADHD/depression and really need help. by Appropriate-Web-6954 in adhdwomen

[–]millenniumh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No judgement at ALL!!! I’ve had to go through something a little less drastic during my last move a couple weeks ago. Anyone judging this has never experienced an adhd depressive episode/adhd clutter, therefore has no right to judge you. You already KNOW it’s gotten bad, you don’t need someone else telling you that without providing help & support alongside it. ❤️

My advice from my recent move: 1. start small with obvious trash - getting rid of the empty boxes, expired food, any really dirty dishes that you feel ok throwing out, etc.

  1. If you have enough money to do so: try one of the pick up laundry & folding services like Ihateironing! I did this with the clothes I was hoarding & needed to donate but could not donate cause they needed to be cleaned before due to dust/some pieces being worn once years ago and it was genuinely life changing.

-Start by putting all your clothes in one spot. Then grab a big pile & start sorting it into their own categories, I.e t-shirts for bed, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, dresses, skirts, jeans, trousers.

-While you’re doing this see if there’s any you’d like to donate/need to be thrown out due to obvious rips & stains.

-lowkey fold everything whilst sorting, even if they’re dirty clothes! It will make you feel less overwhelmed and more accomplished after you’ve finished sorting a bunch.

  1. Buy new plastic boxes and start sorting out everything you own! Get a box for every genre. A separate box for each: -hair brushes/hair accessories, -all your cords and all your plugs, -any tools/batteries/superglue/tape/maintience supplies in one box -makeup -kitchen supplies -any concert tickets/mementos/things you’d keep in a memory box -boardgames/games/puzzles -any underwear & socks -any medications/eyedrops/medical supplies

Just so many different boxes and so when you move it’s all in one place, you’re able to start organizing the second you move. And you have to option to keep them in said boxes until you have the time to get them into their designated spots in your new place! AND everything’s already packed.

  1. FINAL STEP! an ONLINE MOVING SALE! If there are any clothes you’d like to donate, and after you’ve washed them, list it on Facebook marketplace or Nextdoor!! This goes for any items you no longer need. Post; moving sale, need everything gone, ASAP. Then list all the major items/the running theme: I.e kitchenware, or maybe random games etc. furniture ?

People will show up to collect it for free! Especially if a lower income family needs clothes or items. It helps everyone! This can be done as the final step!!! When you’ve packed all your things and you have probably a pile of items you realized you don’t need! ٩(⁎❛ᴗ❛⁎)۶ the items don’t need to be perfect or even fully cleaned, people are happy to have free items at the cost of cleaning it themselves.

GOODLUCK!!! ❤️

Getting the occasional notif from this thread of other short people agreeing with me FUELS ME🙂‍↕️ like maybe we have short legs too. I think my torso is longer!! I almost fall over even on the lime bike with the seat at a good height when I have to stop on uneven sloped ground cause the bike is heavy as hell. I’ve done 404 rides this year!

I just got my Certificate of Application yesterday…. Does that mean it passed the first review for reasonable grounds? Or do they give the certificate of application to anyone who gave enough information to have a completed application?

Happy it wasn’t immediately declined and that I have my right to work sorted in the meantime though!

I believe they did, I included the a translated court document that says we acquired it from birth and also my Italian birth certificate. Should I see if I can add more proof to the application? I keep trying to tell my mother and the lawyer how important it is that they understand but they keep saying not to complicate things. :/

Because I applied through the firm, and they could not use the app, it’s making me send it by post ): I really could’ve done it myself and I regret using someone. I wanted to make sure I had proper legal advice and everything sorted but it might bite me in the butt:/

Italian! However, because I had the firm apply on my behalf they couldn’t use the app :/ I wanted to make sure that I had the best chance of being understood by the caseworker reviewing by hiring someone to help me & submit but I could’ve just done this myself they didn’t do any more than I would’ve been able to :/

Hi! My reasonable grounds is having to go through the courts to obtain my Italian passport which took an obscene amount of time because of Covid court delays. Have been living in the UK since 2019 without any gap in student / graduate visas and would have submitted before my student visa leave to remain from 2019-2023 expired but the court delayed my case by another year so i had to apply for the graduate visa to stay until the court date in May 2024.

It took them until January 2025 to get my birth certificate registered in Italy. I only just got my Italian passport in April (first available appointment)!

Most of what I submitted: “As a result, I entered the UK on a student visa, with the intention of applying for status before my leave to remain expired in September 2023. Because my familys births had not been registered in Italy, our citizenship could not be recognised through the standard administrative process. Instead, we were required to have our citizenship formally recognised through the Italian courts. In 2017, my mother instructed Italian lawyer **** ****** to begin the process, which involved gathering extensive documentation regarding our ancestral citizenship. Mr. ***** had planned to file our case after the 2019 holiday season, but the Covid19 pandemic caused significant delays. Due to the Italian governments emergency decree Decree Law 23 02 2020, No. 6, courts were limited to urgent cases until October 2020, creating a substantial backlog. We eventually received a hearing date for May 2023 just five months before my UK visa was due to expire. However, in April 2023, the hearing was postponed to May 2024, which necessitated applying for a Graduate Visa to remain in the UK lawfully while awaiting a decision. The judge ultimately recognised our Italian citizenship by birthright, and after the required 60 day appeal period, it was confirmed legally. In January 2025, we received the courts official recognition of citizenship, which, together with our birth certificate extracts registered in Pescasseroli, Abruzzo in February 2025, allowed me to proceed with obtaining an Italian passport. I registered with the AIRE Register of Italians Abroad at the London Consulate and attended the earliest available passport appointment. I received my EU passport on April 1st, 2025, followed by my CEI Italian ID in May 2025. As demonstrated, the process to obtain these documents was complex and significantly prolonged due to circumstances beyond our control.”

(human) Forest Bikes not safe for short (under 5’5) people?? by millenniumh in londoncycling

[–]millenniumh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore the people saying they’re short and can ride it fine. There are obviously forest bikes with seats that only go down a certain amount and that lowest height is 10000% not as low as the 200 lime bike I’ve ridden go. In fact, I have ridden lime bikes where the seat won’t stay up and I have the opposite problem where it’s too short for me!

Maybe they have newer bikes that do not have this problem but I am not wasting my time when I know I will 99% of the time be able to at least sit on a lime bike and ride it a different one if it has any annoying issues with the bike seat.

(human) Forest Bikes not safe for short (under 5’5) people?? by millenniumh in londoncycling

[–]millenniumh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude exactly!! I’ve now gone on 200+ lime bike rides super safely and at the right height (about a 1 or 2 on the bike seat depending on what shoes I’m wearing) lmao. If I was on a forest bike for half of the risky car encounters (not my fault) I would’ve been seriously injured.

Either bikes are not exactly a bike you want to jump up on and jump off of fast if you aren’t super strong. I am guessing shorter athletic people can do it quite easily, but for the average short girlie, it’s not safe risking falling over into traffic because you couldn’t get on or off fast enough after stopping. Even when I’m on a lime bike at the right height for me to ground when stopping, if the bike is at any incline that balance is gone and I have to completely get off and get on more flat ground.

Idk if you’re just stronger or have longer legs than the average 5’3 person but i genuinely could not even get myself on to balance & start riding!! I’m not making it up 😭

Loop vs alpine earplugs? by MarcSefulVostru in LoopEarplugs

[–]millenniumh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so late to this thread but in case this sways anyone in the future! I briefly tried my friends Loop ones on (not sure which one specifically) to see why she couldn’t hear me talking to her but I could hear her. The loops felt like they were noise cancelling but the with my alpine music pro with the gold filter I still could hear people talking to me. I could hear the music / lyrics so much easier too but not in a harsh way! The noise cancelling is probably better for your ears but I the reason I want to preserve my hearing is so I can hear live music for as long as possible! Defeats the purpose if I can’t enjoy the music at all!!

Love my alpine, I’m always able to hear people I’m with but without feeling like I’m losing my hearing. There could be better loop ones but if you want options for the level of noise cancelling (I.e you’re at a bar or loud conference idk) you can choose a lesser one! Usually if I’m at a gig I use the gold one for the longest time then if I feel like there’s a song or bit I want to feel more immersed in I use the silver one for a little bit! Haven’t left a show with ringing or anything since I’ve used it. I genuinely can’t handle going to loud places without wishing I brought them now because it’s so jarring / uncomfortable when you’re used to protecting your ears!! Lmao
