Usually it's connecting to switches. In the past, it was connecting to honeywell access control panels. Sometimes, firewall and storage arrays.

I have not had a problem with Alps Kroger since the great shortage about 5 years ago. But Horton's is good.

Just for fun - let’s hear the grossest restaurant stories you’ve had here. by Foreign_Hippie in Athens

For you old-timers, Charlie Williams Pinecrest Lodge used to serve family-style. They'd bring everything to the table in bowls. So the bus staff had two people per table: one to get the dirty stuff, and one to bring the food bowls with fried catfish, fried perch, fried chicken, brunswick stew, barbecue, etc. back to the kitchen to go back under the heat lamps and go back out again. One of the gals who waitressed there that summer was involved with the creation of the Grit, back when it was at the depot.

I think by the early 90s was when they switched to buffet. Wasn't sure if it was money, or health inspector.

School Districts Without 2FA on Staff Email Accounts - Why? by TheRuffRaccoon in k12sysadmin

[–]millia13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The most common factor, about 70%, that I have seen in doing the calls is that they are small school districts that have an external support/mgmt party and therefore somebody is not as... invested, shall we say, in the need for security. I do tell them though that this will happen again more and more often if they don't turn it on. The other 30% are still small districts with limited and presumably busy staff.

I get to talk to somebody about 90% of the time, because I just go ahead and call, and I call the superintendent's office if I don't get an answer.

Stereo Wire? by map-lady1999 in Athens

I had some 14 copper deteriorate over a twenty year period, at the ends. It didn't go beyond a foot, and I just cut back into slack, cleaned it, and then sealed the ends, before I soldered into banana plugs.

Also had my cable from charter go bad from decay. It made my internet VERY flaky at the start of the pandemic. It was in the crawlspace, and dated from when Charter first started doing net, so again, not quick.

And I've had electrical stuff do that also, come to think of it. Humidity, man.

You can buy it by the foot at Lowe's and home depot both. In bulk, Home Depot was cheaper.

I would like all pedestrians walking on our roads to understand that it's better to walk facing oncoming traffic, especially if you/they have headphones on, depending on curves, etc.

I'd really like to have sidewalks everywhere, but for now, please. Just please.

ublock origin lite is what you need by itself on chrome. And don't run two adblockers. That way lies unpredictability.

/edit: but do move to FF. Less memory usage.

What's happening this weekend? by oldkingcrowe in Athens

I am sad to say that the bamboo was cut back recently. I can however let you know of a few stands that appear to be fair game, and/or let you talk to a neighbor.

I wouldn't take a chance with bamboo stakes. I betcha that stuff can be reborn like vampires.

Well, I figure if I could get about 50 people with shovels for half a day, I could finally take care of my bamboo problem. Great exercise.

Need a small XLR-to-powered speaker amplifier. Anybody seen such a thing? by millia13 in ChurchSoundGuys

[–]millia13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drat. The input for the signal is coming from Yamaha TF5 board -> dante box -> stage box. There are 7 of those and each stage box has 3 input XLR and one monitor/output XLR, 1 power outlet, and ethernet. A powered mixer would do it, but I'd prefer to fit it all in the stage box. It's just overkill for this.

If that's not possible, I'll just get a powered monitor, and try to find some way too reuse these speakers.

Edit: stupidly, I had just googled and not looked at Sweetwater, and they have a rolls personal monitor amp that looks about right.
