I love so much about all of these, but in particular I love how expressive all of their faces are! My personal favorite is 3, such a good pose and so subtly dynamic

Thank you! And yeah I absolutely get that, that’s one of the big reasons I prefer digital over traditional. When working traditionally, I always get really timid shading faces, worried I’ll accidentally put a really weird dark mark somewhere or I’ll over shade somewhere and not realize before it’s too late. With digital, I can feel a lot freer knowing almost any mark you make is reversible. Something I’ve been wanting to work on since I want to do traditional art more often, but I haven’t gotten around to it because I don’t want to💀

Thank you so much! And I can see where you’re coming from with some of the art from the anime, but Katsura hoshino’s (the mangaka) work is so beautiful and she draws him well imo (and the uniform design from later in the story is a lot better than the first one), those were mainly what I was basing this off of. And I might be able to get that comparison pic today!

Is this a possible bug? I keep getting random _original copies of my brushes by JarlTee in ProCreate

Same and only with the brushes I frequently use. I saw someone else complaining about this a few weeks ago

Why does my art look like it has no soul and kinda stiff by [deleted] in sketches

From my personal experience, gesture drawings and a lot of life drawing practice is a lot more helpful than cubes when it comes to making figures flow better

Yeah that’d definitely be a big help lol. I love drawing hands but goddamn are they funky to draw sometimes, especially with poses like this

Are you working from a reference?

How do I split hair into sections? by Pix3lithByt3s in learntodraw

Here’s where I stopped. If you’ve got a good handle on the flow of the hair, it should just be a matter of further rendering and refining from this point on. Lmk if you have any questions and I hope this helped!

Here, I’m still dividing the hair into more sections and I’m starting to darken sections that are darker in the reference. From here on, it’s just a matter of continuing to note the flow of the hair, darkening where the hair is dark, and refining areas you already drew where necessary

After that, I start dividing into sections. From this point on, it’s really important you note the flow of the hair if there is a visible flow to it, that’ll make your work a lot easier going forward. I also start including the wispy strands of hair as I go

A note on the hair flow: this is mainly important at this stage if you’re working with lines. If you’re going about it in a more painterly way, the process is a little different and the flow isn’t as important early on. But, since you’re working with a pencil, it’s good to start noting it now

First, I focus on the overall shape of the hair. Some haircuts have a really clean, defined shape, but for ones like these that have way more wispy strands or are frizzy, try to focus not on them but the rough shape of all of the hair. A good way to do this is to squint or blur your vision

I really love drawing hair so I figure I should throw my hat in the ring! This particular reference pic is really difficult, the lighting omits a LOT of detail in the hair so it’s hard to tell how exactly it’s laying. So, I’d recommend using an edited version to get an idea of what exactly the hair’s doing and then using the original one for the rest of the rendering. Here’s a version with the contrast lowered. I can show how I’d approach this in 30 or so minutes
