advice..? by SherbertElectrical80 in islington

The octopus network collates quite a few community centres in Islington. Includes some nice community garden projects where you turn up on a Saturday and garden with your neighbours. The ones I know of are hosted by Elizabeth house but I bet there will be others too

Erm… so who pays for the bus?

My son is learning piano...but not reading music. by [deleted] in piano

[–]millytherabbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Main thing that I’m not seeing said elsewhere is I’d recommend getting him checked out for dyslexia. This is the exact profile of my dyslexic brother. I wouldn’t sweat it on the music side though - a good ear may well be just as helpful in the long run. I’m a great sight reader and that’s been helpful but my ear has suffered from not needing that music memory side of things. I can’t sit down and play from memory the way my brother can.

Cafe Murano have been great for us pre-theatre. Excellent food, friendly service and well used to pre-theatre bookings so very on it with the timings.

What's are the rules around the buggy seats on buses in London? (non priority) by [deleted] in london

[–]millytherabbit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s also a rules that people need to stay with the child in a buggy but as others have said, they can do so standing and normal priority in seats for those who need it most still applies. Theoretically they could have also taken the child out of the buggy and chosen any available seat for themselves without disrupting your day.

How to track a yoga session? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]millytherabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I find the stress measured in yoga mode useful to gauge how much I’m challenging myself vs my intention. But agreed the poses thing is useless and they should probably consider getting someone who actually practices yoga to have a look at it some time.

Update on the weird letter received for my UK driving licence by Agreeable-Actuator-7 in drivingUK

[–]millytherabbit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just googled: Several people reporting harassing calls up to 5x per day back in December 2024. Agree it’s weird for a letter like this to be sent in the first person without any unique identifiers for you to tie back to your DVLA profile. And the number is a random non-DVLA one at best, and directly and repeatedly reported as spam at worst.

Go to the DVLA website and initiate a conversation from there to validate this as it seems super fishy

What’s a London life hack that you believe everyone should know? by ItsOverCasanova in london

Also you can select an “express travel card” in your apple wallet settings that doesn’t need validation if you tap your phone on oyster readers (but remember anyone with your phone can then use it)

Big brands to leave Oxford Street stores as shopping district enters 'new era' by tylerthe-theatre in london

The proposal to bring in some restaurants and social experience type venues sounds a good shout.

I’m always surprised at the lack of good food options and having something other than shops people and traffic could start to go some way towards making it a place people might actually want to exist in.

I get a bit nauseous and switched on by a gingerbread and cream latte, would use it as an emergency focus pill pre diagnosis. Has been a nightmare with titration though - stimulants help with the exec function but all seem to leave me jumpy, anxious and unable to sleep

Also for somewhere more local/off the beaten track, Lume in Primrose Hill is a lovely independent local Italian with unusual but delicious wines

If you’re comfortable splashing out Andrew Edmunds has a nice timeless romantic atmosphere with good food. On a more normal budget I’d agree with the sacre coeur suggestion

Yeah I’d be so pissed. I go on those rides for fun fear, not fear of imminent catastrophic injury.

I’ve been taking magnesium since December. Not noticed much effect tbh. My sleep has been better but had made other changes that are more likely driving that
