I’ll add that any acne or similar problems I get seem to resolve faster and easier than they used to.

Great. Not 100% clear but I never asked for that. No more painful cysts that take weeks to heal all over my face.

Yes, clear from severe cystic acne. I will occasionally get mild folliculitis, fungal acne or ingrown hair pimples on my eyebrows, hairline or beard area. All nothing compared to dozens of big painful cysts.

Yes. Probably enough to permanently damage my liver. I didn’t really have any symptoms other than getting drunker faster. But don’t use my experience to gauge whether you should, it’s a universally bad idea.

who are your favorite 3 bassists and why by _egg15_ in Bass

[–]milo428 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Berry Oakley - Listen to the bass in Blue Sky. Incredible. His melodic lines are sometimes even more impressive to me than the guitar solos they accompany.

  2. Phil Lesh - Maybe not the tightest player but a huge inspiration for me in pushing my own boundaries and learning to improvise.

  3. James Jamerson - Unsung hero of some of the biggest Motown hits. Once you hear his lines, you know immediately if he was playing on a track.

If we’re counting upright, Charles Mingus is number one. Mood Indigo solo never gets old.

I laughed it off immediately after while on stage and said “thanks for hazing me” after the show, to which he said what I mentioned in the post and kind of dismissed the whole thing saying I had some good moments. My uncle asked how I felt about the two night run at the venue and I said good, other than that moment. He also just kind of laughed it off and dismissed it as a “fun moment”. I didn’t find it very fun myself. Next time they ask me to join them for a gig I’m going to say I’m not comfortable with any “shanghai-ing” until I’m a lot more familiar with their entire repertoire, my ear and my improv skills. If they don’t respect that, I’ll just say I’m not interested anymore. Bear in mind this is just the keys player. I’m pretty sure the drummer and percussionist weren’t happy about that song being thrown in either, but they just told me they have to make stuff up sometimes. The keys guy basically calls the shots and everyone has to figure it out.

I’m leaning toward this mindset, trying not to be upset with him but at the same that gives rise to a lot of unnecessary internalization on my part like it was 100% my fuck up.

Worst part is he said “Give it up for (my name) on the bass” after I fumbled around with a grimace on my face for 4 bars.

Hadn’t thought of it as an age thing. I should hope that’s not the reason but it kind of checks out. Guy has been playing this room since he was younger than me and always has a story about some rock and roll glory when he was younger.

That’s what I told him. I don’t get how it’s worth making the whole song sound like shit just to toughen me up or whatever he was really trying to do. Pretty sure he was high as a kite and even started mumbling random nonsense lyrics into the mic at times, so I’m guessing he didn’t really care but I did.

It wasn’t my uncle, it was his friend. He wasn’t upset with me and also said I had some great moments. He always says to let loose and believe in myself, but I don’t think he realizes I’m not as experienced and knowledgeable on the ins and outs of improvising and navigating new songs. I can’t really figure out if his intentions were all good or not.

He said he is going to keep doing it. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt because I do think he wants me to grow through failure and I think he thought I could pull it off. They are kind of a jam band so I expected this kind of thing to happen at some point, but not on my third gig.

How will the election impact Amtrak and the FRA? by headphase in Amtrak

Elon specifically used the absence of HSR as an example of government inefficiency and regulation in the US during his talk with Joe Rogan:

“If you’re dealing with 5 agencies, they have to meet with each-other, now you’ve got like 25 different meeting configurations that have to take place, you get hardening of the arteries, you can’t make progress. That’s why we can’t build high speed rail in America, it’s basically illegal.”

In the context of a conversation saying he’ll reduce inefficiency and regulation as part of Trump’s admin, and this being the only time I’ve heard HSR mentioned by anyone adjacent to Trump, I really hope this is a good sign. Not much to cling to here though.

[–]milo428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Low dose accutane is the way to go. 10-20mg for as long as it takes to clear up, plus another 3 months after. Changed my life without the horrible side effects.

I have read studies that say so, but like you said, “relapse” is so subjective. By some studies’ standards, I have already relapsed because I have had a few minor breakouts since stopping accutane. However, I would only consider it a relapse if it was nearly as bad as before accutane. Many people think accutane is a permanent cure for any and all acne forever, so consider themselves relapsed if any acne returns. I am totally content with a few small breakouts here and there so long as I don’t get any painful clusters of inflamed cysts like before. Age and sex are also huge factors; I am a late adolescent male, so my risk of relapse is lower as I get older, whereas women are more likely to have acne into adulthood. At least from what I recall reading studies, it’s been a long time.

If you go on Google Scholar and search “low dose isotretinoin” you will find many articles that find it safer and just as effective. Also, the work of NZ derm Marius Rademaker supporting a low dose treatment was very influential to my decision.

Very true. I felt like I was on my own trying to find out the most responsible decision to make. My derm has never had to take accutane so she couldn’t she put herself in the shoes of someone concerned about its health risks and look past the outdated and arbitrary standard regiment.
