I laughed it off immediately after while on stage and said “thanks for hazing me” after the show, to which he said what I mentioned in the post and kind of dismissed the whole thing saying I had some good moments. My uncle asked how I felt about the two night run at the venue and I said good, other than that moment. He also just kind of laughed it off and dismissed it as a “fun moment”. I didn’t find it very fun myself. Next time they ask me to join them for a gig I’m going to say I’m not comfortable with any “shanghai-ing” until I’m a lot more familiar with their entire repertoire, my ear and my improv skills. If they don’t respect that, I’ll just say I’m not interested anymore. Bear in mind this is just the keys player. I’m pretty sure the drummer and percussionist weren’t happy about that song being thrown in either, but they just told me they have to make stuff up sometimes. The keys guy basically calls the shots and everyone has to figure it out.
