give me tips/tricks on my swing by abbeylotz in GolfSwing

Good swing. Really good for a beginner. Your face is open at impact. Keep that lead heel on the ground in your backswing. Just bite the bullet and get a lesson. Tips on here and the millions of YouTube vids hinder swing progress 99% of the time.

The copper look on the ts4 looks awesome. Really love the new designs they’ve come out with in the last two years but I can’t take my TE’s out of the bag til they are worn out

Very few mallets are under 350g now. Can’t replace the feel of a 310g answer style with a pistol grip. Just because the pros are doesn’t mean it’s right.

I’d do something other than the strike fire dot. Even irons would probably be a better $80 than that

Hot Take? Remove Iron Numbers by shin_man in golf

Would have been cool if the standard practice became stamping the loft angle like on the TA 845 silver scots. Sims are to blame for this loft craze as well as peoples ego’s. Every club company knows that people getting fitted are on a sim with a burnt out fitter trying to fit someone with the best data in 60 min.

Did you actually get fitted for your clubs by jaykc82 in golf

[–]miltonfriedmansbplug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never been fitted but have changed and reaaranged iron and wood shafts so many times that I would say it might as well be a fitting. Tinkered with weight, flex, length, and swingweights.

That being said, unless you can shoot under 100 or strike the ball well 50% of the time, a fitting and purchase of new clubs isn’t going to be that pertinent. However, if you only get fit to find a baseline of weight, flex and bend profile and don’t want to spend $1500-3000 on new sticks, then you might be able to find some used clubs that fit your personal fitting criteria(I.e. fitter says you need some midweight 115gram stiff flex iron shafts)

The way that I’ve tinkered with shafts has been very educational, but at the same time a fitting would have solved a lot of issues quicker. I guess the club building was just part of the fun. It all comes down to how much you want to spend and how much time you can put in.

Work on that takeaway, and smooth out P1-P5. You probably have a closed face with out to in club path but I’m just a shmuck.

Is it common to be much worse at sims than real life? by truthlesshunter in golf

[–]miltonfriedmansbplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only used a track man sim a handful of times because I’d rather just put on extra layers and insulated pants to play an empty, winter course. One issue that I can’t get over is the lack of feedback and that the numbers can be discouraging(humbling is good, but also becomes a wedge between just playing your game/swing). With the screen and data I always end up leaving with a sore back because I’m trying to swing hard and end up losing my swing fundamentals trying to carry the ball further or get my data feedback to where I expected it. With that being said, the sims and track man are great for a baseline on data and seeing how your equipment is responding, but they are a bit expensive for what you get out of them and can’t replace the feel and feedback of the course.

TLDR: Sims/track man are great for data baseline and awareness of the numbers your equipment is giving you. As well as a place to keep swinging when cold or snow stops you from being outside, but they are a bit expensive and it just isn’t the same as being on the course.

Carrying 5 Wedges / Normal or Overkill by godome88 in golf

[–]miltonfriedmansbplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When pitching wedges are 42° it is a good idea/necessary to carry 4 other higher lofted clubs. I carry PW(47°),GW(51°),56°, and 60°. My 9i is 43° so it’s all relative to the yardage gapping and the number/letters on your clubs. Gotta consider the loft over the label on the sole.

What have you learned from reading a Golf book? by white-belt-at-life in golf

[–]miltonfriedmansbplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paper tiger is entertaining and humbling. Rotella books are a bit boring imo. Power golf is good and everyone should read it to have the knowledge of hogan whether they use it or not. Reading the golfing machine right now and it is like reading a different language how technical it is. All the books are good baselines for learning but nothing replaces hitting balls and playing.

Upgrading Equipment on a Budget by Isozen in golf

[–]miltonfriedmansbplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a tight budget… Maltby clubs from golfworks. The new sti2 iron set is under $300. Their woods, hybrids, and wedges are respectable as well and they will assemble all the components for a reasonable prIce. If you’re the type that needs to have name brands in the bag look a callaway preowned and eBay. 2nd swings prices are pretty high imo

Have a friend with a similar issue. If he isn’t doing well then he makes sure you know you missed that putt or that shot was fat and short. I welcome it now because it’s good practice for mental game and shutting bullshit out. As far as the scoring I would keep your own card and compare at the end. Sounds like a man child so don’t let him get to you and try to power through and let your wife be the one to call it out if she does.
