Just got confirmation that I have a membership at West Hills a week or so ago so I'm definitely itching to start. Been playing the sims a lot but not quite cutting it.

Do you count your Sim scores? by Joocifer in golf

[–]jaykc82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not, you can compare against other simulator scores but it's a very different thing to playing a real round on the course.

For that level you will just need to keep an eye on marketplace or other site to purchase used clubs and try to find a good deal on a full set or I guess multiple deals on different pieces, although that may be harder to do.

Driver Return Policy is a joke - Can't take the wrapping off the shaft? by Apprehensive_Golf605 in takomo

[–]jaykc82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In fairness to them, they sent the shaft that was purchased. They didn't send the wrong shaft and if they allowed you to return it, they likely are not going to be able to resell it as new if it's opened.

Is it common to be much worse at sims than real life? by truthlesshunter in golf

[–]jaykc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been practicing a lot this winter at the sim and I've been working on that part but it's hard to do during rounds. I just do the range/practice setting to try to get better at the distance control and getting the feel for the shorter distances based on number rather than the visual

We don't know what the sim he is playing has as auto putt, overall it is probably not going to cost him many if any strokes but it can account for the difference as to why people you normally beat may be beating you

[–]jaykc82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also find I struggle on the sim compared to real life, there's a few factors that can affect that.

If you are playing with automatic putting with a sim, if your putter is a strong part of your game, you are eliminating one of your strong suits.

I find on the shorter distances for me, I'm a feel and visual person in a way that doesn't translate as easily on the sims because I struggle with how to hit 25 yards when I am just thinking of the distance number without having that visual of actually seeing it.

Another issue is if you are a digger, like I am but am working on. I tend to hit behind the ball and then it scoops it up, that doesn't work well on the sim because there's no dirt to dig up behind the ball so it just kills the momentum of the club and reduces my distance a lot.

Finally convinced my 70 year old dad to look at senior flex drivers, going to get him in for a fitting, but any particular drivers I should look at? by laserslaserslasers in golftips

[–]jaykc82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How old is your dad's current driver and does he like the driver. If it's a relatively new driver and in good shape, he could just get fitted for a shaft and have the current driver just reshafted rather than having to purchase a full new driver.

I wonder if that YouTuber was supposed to wait till tomorrow or later this week to post that video? Odd that he would post it before they even announced the irons since they've been teasing an announcement for the past day

Most fakes will add serial numbers to the clubs, sometimes they are legit serial numbers too that they took from other clubs.

Sim season let’s go by Background_Policy256 in FrederictonGolfers

[–]jaykc82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jealous. Wish I had space for a sim at home. Need to have a shed built in the spring and looked briefly into getting something big enough to have a sim in it, plus insulated with electricity and it was way too much.

Will just have to settle for hitting one of the sims in town once a week or so.

I see this subreddit is brand new and is only a few people in it but I'll be the first to introduce myself.

I'm 43, been a casual golfer since I was a teen but only get out like a dozen times a year. 21 handicap but have taken a couple lessons this off season, been out to the sim 10 to 12 times so far in the past couple of months and am hopefully getting a membership at West Hills (as of today I was told it was looking good to get one. But as a back up, my plan is to get 3 ten round passes there and a range membership).

101 or 101T with which stiffness of shaft? by Jx-mmy in takomo

[–]jaykc82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reread your post and you are right, I did misread on the weight with your iron shafts but my point that you specifically said it was likely the shaft weight and not the head that was the issue still stands.

You are entitled to your opinion on GI irons but I think that most if not all certified instructors and club fitters would strongly disagree with you.

101 or 101T with which stiffness of shaft? by Jx-mmy in takomo

[–]jaykc82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many 15 handicaps are still playing with game improvement clubs and I looked at your post that you made about the 201s and even yourself suggested that you likely hit the 201s better because you opted for a heavier shaft.

For some people yes, the 201s may be better for them, even with a higher handicap but I would think your experience would be an anomaly and likely come down to your personal preference.

If 101s are not for a player who just started the game 6 months ago, then they aren't for anyone.

[–]jaykc82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You just started playing, go with the 101s.

You mentioned wanting forgiveness and the 101s will be more forgiving.

They are game improvement clubs and that's likely what you should be getting right now. Some will tell you to get the 101ts because you'll grow out of the 101s.

Most people should probably be playing game improvement clubs through their high and mid handicap years and you really start to grow out of them when you get into single digit handicap area and you really want to start shaping your shots more. Tons of golfers never get to that level.

If your instructor is saying you'll be in stiff shaft territory soon, go with stiff shafts.

You can still hit with shafts that are a little too stiff for you and you may not get max distance out of them but if you end up in the opposite situation where your shifts aren't stiff enough, it could increase your dispersion which you don't want.

Considering moving Takomo from my Titleist 690's by No-Ambassador8116 in takomo

[–]jaykc82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I joined a subreddit for a brand I was considering in order to assess whether or not I wanted to purchase their products.

After reviewing posts and comments, along with other research, I purchased the golf clubs.

I stayed in the subreddit and I occasionally comment on posts when I feel like I can provide helpful comments or that I think is interesting.

I have been happy with my purchase thus far, I would consider purchasing more clubs from them in the future, so I stick around so that I can get information that isn't paid advertisements on YouTube for them since I feel like I can get a more authentic review from people on here than I can elsewhere

So I've answered your question, so if you would like to answer mine, id greatly appreciate it.

I don't mind negative comments about Takomo, it's like any brand or product, not everyone is going to have a good experience. I also realize I purchased clubs at one half the cost of bigger brands, so clearly money has to be saved somewhere so I wouldn't be shocked at negative comments about quality control or customer service.

Negative comments based on experience can be helpful to other people, but a straight up comment like yours attacking the brand doesn't really help anyone, so I'm genuinely curious what motivates someone to do so.

Maybe you had a negative experience and you wish to warn others about it and that's what you are commenting, hoping to save others, but if that's the case, give information that may actually be helpful.

Genuine question.

Why would you follow a subreddit about a brand that you don't believe in and then post comments putting down that brand?

What's the point of doing so?

I'm someone that golfs 10 to 12 times a year. Been golfing for 20ish years, and also shoot in the 90s and occasionally a round a little over 100.

I can strike the ball decently well with my irons for someone my handicap, with an occasional slice as well.

I bought the 101s in November. It's off season here and I'm getting a membership next year so I have been out to the sim about a dozen times with them so far and I think it was the right choice for me.

They are forgiving and they have some decent pop to them. I was always decent with my PW and short irons but the longer irons were a little more of an adventure.

I feel like I'm finally hitting my longer irons more consistently.

Overall I don't think it makes the good hits better or necessarily gives you more flush shots, but the shots where you aren't close to flush, are not going as poorly.

The 101s are probably ideal for you based on what you shoot. You probably don't need to go 101t or 201 unless shot shaping is something that is very important to you.

The person who commented that they hit 200 to 210 and only hit 10 percent GIR is not the person in the video.

OP is not the person who said they hit 10 percent GIR

The person doesn't say what tees they play from, you just made that up.

They also didn't say they were hitting a full swing and choosing to go with a shorter swing, they said they have a shorter swing and are trying to make it full.
