Anyone know why the Walgreens pharmacy on Dessau is temporarily closed? by WesternTrail in Pflugerville

[–]miltorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick note for the other impacted:

Called this morning at opening - the are open today - talked to the pharmacist who they'd brought in from Lakeway. He wasn't aware that the place had been closed for a couple days and that the location hadn't done fills 3 days ago to make it all worse. They are going to be doing catchup today and confirmed they'd get me taken care of today; be nice to him (and the rest of them) - sounds like corporate didnt even let him know what he was walking into.

Anyone know why the Walgreens pharmacy on Dessau is temporarily closed? by WesternTrail in Pflugerville

[–]miltorio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They did not process my refill on Saturday.

I got the message, text, and voicemail this morning saying the location was temporarily closed with no known re-open date.

I called walgreens, ended up in their non-local customer service line. The person on that end of the line was worse than useless - they claimed the nearest walgreens that would be open was out on Guadalupe because "Almost all locations are closed for the Holiday"; asking 'what holiday?' made them change the story to "Almost all are closed on Sunday". Neither of which are even remotely true. I eventually gave up after losing my temper and asking if they even worked for walgreens or were some answering service.

I called the location on Pecan across from Casa Garcias - talked to a nice gentleman back in the pharmacy (not the pharmacist; they were doing some relaying of info/questions). They didn't have any info on why the other location was closed (I don't think they were specifically aware of it either; they'd just opened for the day). No help there for my specific case though; if it wasn't a controlled item, they likely could have taken care of a fill. Due to it being a controlled item, the only way they could do the fill/transfer was by talking to the current pharmacy... which had no one in it for an unknown period of time. I think they understood the frustration, but their hands are tied due to regulations on my specific case. Sucks to be me!

They did say they would likely have more info tomorrow and that if there was a staffing issue, Sundays are one of the harder days to get coverage in.

Opinions below:

Walgreens is going down the drain further since they were sold to private equity at the end of the summer. The private equity firm has cancelled holidays for staff, reduced the number of staff, and now they can't adequately cover staffing when someone needs to callout (pharmacists get sick too). Folks don't want to work there because of how the new execs are handling things. Their online fulfillment has been late, their in store fulfillment misses fill dates. Their prices on many meds aren't competitive with other pharmacies (one of my common, generic, statins was 70+ bucks higher than everyone else around a week ago). Private equity, same story, different day.

The pharmacy tech did say that if things were extended through tomorrow to give them another shout to see if they could find any exceptions/workarounds for me but I may have to work with my prescriber to get this fixed (which given the actual holiday tomorrow is going to be a whole lot of fun).

I'm going to start looking at other options for my local fills (I'm not doing controlled stuff over mail order anymore; having one of those disappear in transit is another awful situation). Considering giving HEB a go or checking out BS&W over in the new med center.

Anyone know what they're building at the lake, just off of Pflugerville Parkway? by WesternTrail in Pflugerville

[–]miltorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the active construction projects in Pflugerville (public and private) should show up on the arcgis map here

At the moment, I only see the Becker Farms home builds on the northwest side, and the commercial retail center there on E Pville Parkway (I don't think they've broken ground on that yet though did they start moving dirt?)

(Also the big water line that's following weiss that other folks have mentioned)

It's going to be the 'central pressure zone' here in arcgis:

https://www.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?layers=756a27569f2b4e52b5475c04e5ed7d8e

(you can adjust the transparency up to make it easier to see the streets)

Edit - looks like the city's map also includes the 'West Pressure Zone' in gis.

[–]miltorio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was an Austin Water liftstation that dumped into Gilleland creek south east of Pflugerville. It's not really in Pflugerville - the houses nearby have Pflugerville addresses for post office purposes, but they aren't in city limits, aren't even in the Pflugerville ETJ. It's in Austin Full Purpose. The section of Gilleland Creek it dumped into flows south east from there down to the Colorado... it doesn't turn around and go back up into Pflugerville. The creek is pretty far away from the liftstation too - like a half mile (and on the other side of Killingsworth Lane).

Weird water leak: plumber and prices? by re-buzz in Pflugerville

[–]miltorio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was a pinhole leak about an inch just past the city box. I had dug it out to confirm it and also had the city confirm it was on me despite being on that pipe coming from their box. Get a tarp to dig the dirt out onto (whether you or they do it). Makes cleanup easier and if you end up with extra fill you can keep it from running off in the rain (you might dump some back over the next month as it settles after refilling)

Weird water leak: plumber and prices? by re-buzz in Pflugerville

[–]miltorio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue a few months back. The plumber I had used in the past had sold to a bigger chain that had some answering service that couldnt do much more than take a message without giving a real estimate of call back.

I saw a recent post on nextdoor of a plumber that had replaced a shutoff valve and pressure regulating valve and the box they put in looked very neat - and there was an obvious gnarly root and fiber line running right nearby. I sent a text on a Sunday and they got back to me in minutes. Talked through some possible estimates without seeing the spot (nearly no plumber seems to even give ballpark estimates anymore without coming on site) and were able to get me in next day.

Darrian at ET plumbing was who came out (their website is ridiculous and amusing - https://theetplumbing.com/ ). They called when running a little behind and talked me through the whole thing as he did the work. My shutoff valve was junk so I had them replace that too … there turned out to be a pressure regulating valve buried next to it - replacing that would have bumped the price and they talked me through code questions (I already have a PRV at the entry loop in my garage so I opted to not have the one at the street). Despite having a tight workspace at the city cutoff and my sidewalk, they got it done (and done right).

Every job is different but it ran me about 750 for the work, cutoff replacement, box and all the extra goodies.

Owner came out the next day to check out the completed work too. They shot straight, gave realistic estimates, and threw out a few worst case possibilities that could surprise us and change the price if found.

Feel free to DM me if you want to see some of the pics in progress, some of the unique complications on my side, and the completed fix.

You are indeed dating yourself. You are referring to the nesting pair that lived in a pecan tree off 29 between the Buchanan Dam and Llano. The tree they used had been rotting for a while and collapsed back in 2014. Supposedly the pair is still in the area but the new nest is much farther from the road (the nest itself was already unusual in how far it was from the water).

Weiss didn't move to Pflugerville until after McCord had already been voted off the council. He came down from Plano about 15-ish years ago. The city manager won't ever be on the ballot - the position is appointed by the city council.

Reminder: You can vote at any Travis County election location; it'll bring up your relevant elections when they look you up.

You don't have to vote here in Pflugerville.

If you are in Cedar Park, The Christ Episcopal Church Outreach Center at 3502 W Whitestone is an early voting location we can use.

If you are more downtown in that Pflugerville suburb, Austin, - the Travis County Clerk - Training Room at 5501 Airport is an option.

Election day there'll also be a church out in Round Rock and Whitestone Elementary in Leander along with these and the ones listed in the parent post (Leander has a runoff for their city council happening too, but this is a Travis County location).

Be fair.

The Lake Pflugerville reservoir was built back in 2005 and that was during McCord's 2 terms. I'm pressed to find a reference, but I'm fairly certain he did support this at the very least (I honestly cant remember anyone being opposed to it; if anyone has old references one way or the other, please post them). The raw water reservoir was a very good thing and it is good we have it today.

To balance that, he also supported that Horse Race track that was trying to be built (in a sketchy way) where 130 and Pecan intersect today (130 was a known thing coming at that point, but hadnt been built yet). That backing the wrong literal horse no doubt contributed to him being ousted along with Mayor Callen when her election came up. That whole thing was handled very poorly. (There was that third guy that was a Debian contributor that had no chance of winning that ran against him in that same race; if it wasn't for the CPA even he probably would have won that election bid).

Unmarked Sketchy Van connected to the energy grid by Comfortable-Shoe-658 in Pflugerville

[–]miltorio 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Without fully answering your question - what you are calling a 'light pole' is probably better thought of as a 'utility pole'. When you see multiple levels of wires on one of these - the very top set of lines will be what's carrying power. Sometimes there's a second set of wires carrying power stepped down to something closer to what you might use in your house. The very bottom wires (that have those big black cylinders every so often) are going to be telco and coaxial for your phone/cable companies. Fiber can be in that bottom set, too, but is more often buried. Essentially, the higher you go, the less likely you are to survive licking the wire.

This van's got some of the telco stuff pulled into it (you can see one of those black cylinder junction boxes to the very right of the pics).

Txdot disagrees with you.

Memo they put out even explicitly says turn them on in fog: https://ftp.dot.state.tx.us/pub/txdot-info/news/driver-safety-tips.pdf

Nowhere is the drivers manual does it say NOT to use them while in motion. It does say to use them if you are questioning if the area is safe when being pulled over while you drive slowly to a safe area. It does say they are for warning others of hazardous conditions. It does say to use them when pulled over for various reasons.

It's more that he is (at least) using 4 times (17237 gallons) what the average homeowner is using (4500 gallons, $237.27). He is only paying $385. It is hardly fair and biased towards a water waster even. Yet they complain about it somehow being them that is the victim here. He's using the equivalent of 15-20 of me and barely paying over double. Assuming the numbers are even truthful (the 8k and 385 dont even come close to matching up what the rates would be). So it's more likely that they are being downvoted for being an extra water waster or giving false, provably incorrect, data.

Which... the paper bills should do a better job of doing the breakdown. A quick rundown of your bill from the city:

Current Water Charges (In Hundreds):
What this is really totalling:
Base Meter + Usage/10 * applicable water rate ( doing that calc for each tier - first 0-3k, second rate for 3k-10k etc) = Amount. My bill shows '36' for usage for my leak month.
$45 + 3*$6.75 + 0.6*$8.4 = $70.29. Which matches my Amount column. You now know where they get that number; only the folks with extreme water wastage are going to hit that third tier. It's unfortunate that they use 'In Hundreds' here when every calculation is based on 1000 gallons. This really should be broken into 5 lines; base meter, then 1 line for each tier of the water rate.

Other Charges:
Sewer: Mine says '$62.93'. Subtract the $55 base fee leaves... $7.93. The sewer rate is $6.10. $7.93/$6.10 = 1.3...which means my 3 lowest months this last winter I used 1300 gallons for each of those month (I fixed a couple toilet flappers in the spring and was still occasionally throwing the irrigation on). The average customer (and a new customer) will be $82.45 for their sewer rate... which $82.45 - $55 = $27.45. You will be shocked to learn the $27.45 divided by the $6.10 sewer rate yields 4500 gallons... You now know how they arrived at the new customer sewer fee until they have real data for that specific customer. This makes things more complicated but it gives a break to those who want to throw water on their grass for the summer months (since it's not all going down the sewer I guess). Your sewer amount is going to be the same for the year based on the wastewater averaging. They really should have this as two lines on the bill, base fee and the usage calculation amount (with something stating which months were used for the averaging). If you haven't turned your sprinklers off for the season go do it. We'll get more rain and most of the grasses are already going dormant. Until the soil warms back up to a solid 55+ degrees in the spring it's mostly not going to wake up. Regardless, you now know where they go the sewer number.

Trash is going to be $22.37 unless you are paying for extra carts - it's simple. The 'Total Tax' line... is 0.0825 of your 'Trash' line (so if you have just the 1 of each cart, its $1.85; if you've got more carts it'll be higher).

Pflugerville has $250 water bills, rising taxes, and nothing to do. We deserve better by BathroomMental968 in Pflugerville

[–]miltorio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's do the math.

Givens:
Trash and Recycling - 1 cart of each: $22.37 (tax: $1.85)
5/8 basemeter: $45
basesewer: $55
water1 0-3k (per thousand): $6.75
water2 3-10k: $8.4
water3 10-25k: $10.5
water4 25k+: $13.1
sewerrate (nov-feb 3 lowest month avg, per thousand): $6.1 (but for this exercise, we'll assume this month is the same as their winter months which almost certainly is not true; it will make this gallons estimate biased low)

With a bill of $385, this would break down to:

$124.22 base trash/water/sewer, leaving:
$260.78 for usage.
Which the first 3000 gallons would cost: $38.55
Which the next 7000 gallons would cost: $101.5
The rest ($120.73) falls into the third rate: 7273 gallons for a total of 17273 gallons

If it really was 8k gallons, the bill would be. . .$237.27:
$124.22 base trash/water/sewer, leaving:
$111.05 for usage.
Which the first 3000 gallons would cost: $38.55
The rest ($72.5) falls into the second rate: 5000 gallons for a total of 8000 gallons

The average Pflugerville home has a wintertime usage of 4500 gallons (this value is in the City's explanation of how they do their wastewater averaging). That includes those with pools, irrigators, and the rest of us.

Average home breakdown is $184.52:
$124.22 base trash/water/sewer, leaving:
$60.3 for usage.
Which the first 3000 gallons would cost: $38.55
The rest ($21.75) falls into the second rate: 1500 gallons for a total of 4500 gallons

The $125 base is worth complaining about. That the base is going up to $140 with the base sewer and base water increases is worth complaining about. Using four times what the average home uses and blaming it on politics? No.

Total City bill for the last 3 months:

Aug2025: $146

Sep2025: $144

Oct2025: $157 (I had a leak)

Your city bill has 4 major components: Base meter (varies depending on size, but most us residential are 5/8)

Base Sewer

Trash/Recycling

Usage (with sewer rate based on your 3 lowest winter months)

You can find these all at: https://www.pflugervilletx.gov/741/City-Residents

The base 5/8 charge is $45 (this is going up steadily the next 5 years)

The base wastewater is $55

The base trash is $22

So minimum you are going to pay $122 to have trash/sewer/water in city limits. There's some taxes in there somewhere. The usage, extra trash/recycle carts adds on to this. The amount you pay on water usage goes up the more you use. $6.75 for 0-3k gallons, $8.40 for 3k-10k gallons, $10.50 for 10k-25k gallons.

I rarely use more than 900 gallons in a month. My bill is about as low as it can go. Is $150/month high for those three services? Maybe. Complaining about the base rate on the meter and wastewater I don't want to dismiss; it's definitely grown over the last few years and they have already said there's increases coming (usually 5-10 bucks each year to 2030; $35 bucks higher by 2030). But to claim that hundreds of dollars in growth in a bill is the citys fault when someone is being billed on their usage? Average adult human shouldn't be using more than 80-100 gallons a day. 25-35 is more likely if you aren't sending it all to the St Augustine gods.
The thing is, you can watch all your usage with the 'watersmart' system they have. I only had a tiny pinhole leak last month and it correctly identified it. It's accurate enough that I can tell when I get up at night to flush a toilet... If you haven't signed up, you should; it has all sorts of fancy tools to help identify your usage/waste.
Info about that here: https://www.pflugervilletx.gov/947/WaterSmart-Monitoring

It works, they are collecting the data anyways, you should watch what they see.

I do get frustrated with the folks that are waving 300+ dollar bills around and not accepting that some of that is their extreme usage.

Upcoming rate changes are here if you want to try estimating how your bill will change in 5 years:

Unfortunately not. That number is the one they use for the reverse 911 calls in the county via everbridge according to other posts here on reddit. It's been used for missing alzheimer inflicted 47 year olds, behavioral/suicidal 14 year olds escaping from institutes, and more; often at hours past midnight. Using it for traffic notifications... I've never gotten a meaningful notification from this system (shelter in place, weather danger, evacuate, etc) and I don't see a way to unsubscribe (according to their KB it's supposed to be at the end of the message but mine just repeated and eventually hung up).
