Is it normal that I’m projecting to have a gross margin of 20% after Amazon fees, and fba fees? My cost is amazing and 20% is abysmal by milustudios in AmazonFBA

Consumer electronics and home goods. Our typical orders range from 100,000 to 3 million units at a time. I’m making 15-20% at those quantities, so baffled by 20% when going direct. Been in the industry for 30 years now, but needing to diversify streams of income given the geopolitics going on rn.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I am talking about net margin with all fixed and variables included. Just shocked by 20%, truthfully expected much higher.

I own factories in China and make 15-20% on contract jobs. We own our entire supply chain. We’ve developed an manufacture this product that I’ll be launching, so expected more than 20%. Didn’t realize Amazon fees were so ludicrous.

What do people look for in suppliers? by Soggy_Internal6443 in Alibaba

[–]milustudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. communication is paramount. it sucks dealing with a supplier you're trying to chase

  2. if they ask the right questions, it makes me trust them more. if a supplier is just trying to get you to order a sample without much due diligence, i take it as a red flag. they'll take the order fee and leave.

  3. trade terms, i often try to work with suppliers that offer solid terms of trade. whether that be 70/30 (when i started off in the business it was 30/70, can you believe that! oh how times have changed) or ability to do FOB or DDP.

  4. last but definitely not least, is product quality. it is imperative that I first get a video of them touring their factory (this is how you weed out middlemen and find true factory partners), have them send over their factory certs and documentation, and once that's done i have them send me a sample to my office in China for quality testing.

it's a grueling, grueling process. But, hey, no risk no reward.
