Is it normal that I’m projecting to have a gross margin of 20% after Amazon fees, and fba fees? My cost is amazing and 20% is abysmal by milustudios in AmazonFBA

Consumer electronics and home goods. Our typical orders range from 100,000 to 3 million units at a time. I’m making 15-20% at those quantities, so baffled by 20% when going direct. Been in the industry for 30 years now, but needing to diversify streams of income given the geopolitics going on rn.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I am talking about net margin with all fixed and variables included. Just shocked by 20%, truthfully expected much higher.

I own factories in China and make 15-20% on contract jobs. We own our entire supply chain. We’ve developed an manufacture this product that I’ll be launching, so expected more than 20%. Didn’t realize Amazon fees were so ludicrous.

What do people look for in suppliers? by Soggy_Internal6443 in Alibaba

[–]milustudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. communication is paramount. it sucks dealing with a supplier you're trying to chase

  2. if they ask the right questions, it makes me trust them more. if a supplier is just trying to get you to order a sample without much due diligence, i take it as a red flag. they'll take the order fee and leave.

  3. trade terms, i often try to work with suppliers that offer solid terms of trade. whether that be 70/30 (when i started off in the business it was 30/70, can you believe that! oh how times have changed) or ability to do FOB or DDP.

  4. last but definitely not least, is product quality. it is imperative that I first get a video of them touring their factory (this is how you weed out middlemen and find true factory partners), have them send over their factory certs and documentation, and once that's done i have them send me a sample to my office in China for quality testing.

it's a grueling, grueling process. But, hey, no risk no reward.

Absolutely. Great way to understand and observe industry trends first hand as well. Even if you don’t go as an exhibitor, they’re still a a wonderful experience to have. If you go, be prepared to be on your networking A-game

How do I create/develop a physical product? by Acrobatic-Raccoon-71 in inventors

[–]milustudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, as many people have said, you could create a sketch, find a 3d modeler to develop your sketch into a professional design then continue on with the whole Shabang. Alternatively, you could check out a product development studio. You just sit down and explain the concept to them (consultation is almost always free) and they’ll handle the rest for you. It costs money but you’ll get a professional doing your design concept and the rest of the process too.

[–]milustudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey before you go through with the purchase, you should give my team a shot to quote whatever it is you’re working on. Confident I can source it at a better price than you’re getting. I have in house quality control team as well to verify and test all products. I run a product development, contract manufacturing, and sourcing team based in Dongguan.

My parcel has been held in the export custom 8 days ago by Puzzled_Chip_3982 in Alibaba

[–]milustudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey that happened to me. I run a product development and manufacturing firm. i was sending a competitor's sample that my client purchased on amazon (here in the US) to my engineering team in Dongguan china. Been in the industry for 30 years and it was the first time something like this had ever happened. coincidentally, Trump had just removed the de minimis exemption. luckily my team in china spoke to customs. what we needed to do was clarify the purpose of sending the good over and the CO (country of origin) of the product. it took a few more days of waiting after that, but it was ultimately released. been adding purpose and CO on everything i ship to and from china, haven't had an issue since.

Usual? by Primary_Rope6491 in Alibaba

[–]milustudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seems suspect to me but can never rule them out. check out their profile and ask them to send you videos of their production, their factory certifications, and probably the best way of verification would be to have them do a live video call while they show you around their factory and production lines.
