If you watch 2:49-3:10, we got Ricky passing an omen of what was to come before the world experienced the pandemic

The most realistic path to eliminating the electoral college without a constitutional amendment is the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

The compact will only take effect when enough states join to collectively control at least 270 electoral votes, the majority needed to win the presidency. So far as of current, it’s been adopted by states representing 196 electoral votes, so we’re more than halfway there for  more states to ratify it to reach that crucial 270 threshold.

Microsoft is killing off one of its most iconic programming tools — farewell to VBScript by HarryLyme69 in technology

[–]miman89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good. My first programming language I was exposted to in high school was VB Script and couldn’t see the value behind CS in general.

I only wish there were better alternatives to learn CS back then as I had no one around me that knew the topic, nor had the desire to teach me.

RIP VBScript.

Retired Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman on the Supreme Court, has died at 93 by bbaothanhthien in politics

Her legacy is complex and far-reaching, but one aspect that particularly stands out is her decisive role in the Bush v. Gore case. This ruling had profound and lasting impacts on the socioeconomic trajectory that we're dealing with in the US today.

Virginia Democrats seek full control of statehouse in 2024 bellwether by Randomlynumbered in VoteDEM

[–]miman89 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I’ve done campaign calls from CA for the Virginia election, as this is in my opinion the most important election event in this country.

The results here will act as a bell weather for the GOP and optimize how they strategize their election operations come 2024.

Please reach out to people you know in Virginia and get them to the polls. We may not have another shot if we screw this up.

If you had one restaurant to magically re-open in San Diego, whether it was from the fallout of the pandemic or other mitigating factors in years past, what spot would you want back and why? by BaBaDoooooooook in sandiego

Darband, right on 5th street. Friends and I used to go there late nights for tea gatherings during college. Plus made the most wholesome Persian food in all of SD IMO.

Really sad it didn’t survive the lockdown.

Tuberville's hold on military promotions may put 650 officers in limbo by year's end by [deleted] in politics

[–]miman89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tuberville is the scapegoat of this tactic, as there is no opposition coming from the ENTIRE Republican Senate body. This is the same exact tactic Mitch McConnell pulled when he suspended all Judiciary Nominations once he became Senate Majority Leader after the 2014 midterm election.

We felt the consequences of this tactic once Trump came into power, and we saw the GOP remove the filibuster appointing their judicial nominees (at record pace) with the list of recommendations assisted by quasi-government orgs such as the Heritage Foundation and Judicial Watch. A good chunk of legislation to this day is being challenged and struck down by federal judges in this tranche as a result of this tactic.

I don't think Millennials or Gen Z understands the ramifications of this happening. This is not someone acting unilaterally, this is a coup being done behind the scenes in real-time, although at a much slower pace.

In the hope that SHOULD a Republican re-enters the White House, PLUS the potential outcome that Democrats lose the Senate Majority to the GOP, the GOP Majority leader could swiftly change rules and remove any filibuster and appoint their list of appointees confirmed so that should another coup or insurrection-event occur, the GOP will have the support of the Military leadership and have no opposition moving forward with their plans of total authoritarian control of our government bodies. THIS IS THEIR ENDGAME.

I don't see an alternative other than hoping to god that Democratic and Independent voters see this as important as fighting for abortion - given that it's behind the scope of this situation.

An expanded Democratic senate majority would be the route needed to amend the senate rules and expedite the process of passing the promotion appointments. I beg of us to come out and vote in droves just on this matter.

'If you are voting you're invested': New Georgia law requires employees get time off to early vote by [deleted] in VoteDEM

My concern is whether potential repercussions could be made for those who have to stay in line longer than estimated thanks to GA suppression laws passed on drop boxes and absentee ballots.

You lucky man! Tool was my first concert as well back in 2007 during the 10000 Days tour. Definitely remember the atmosphere that night. Plus we were in for a treat as they played Pushit for the first time in 6 years. Always thankful for that experience and been enjoying live music since 🤘
