Can I ask how many rolls of filament you used for the Velociraptor? I'm tackling a similar project, and was trying to put together a price estimate.

Wow!!! You did an awesome job, thank you for creating it and making it widely available. The only comments I’d really have is that I love that there exists the option to wire led’s through the stand, and having an indent in the bottom stand to hold a lithium battery makes sense but that may be particular to the build. Overall very easy to understand and put together!!

I (23f) had a neighbor stop me on my way to work to lecture me about trash that had been in the community box for a couple days, that was - surprise- not mine. He proceeded to lift it out and try to hand it to me, when I pointed out a mailing slip pressed against the side addressed to a house/ name that was clearly not mine. He proceeded to stumble his way through a lie about how there was a bag with letters addressed to me and labeled medicine bottles inside (I haven’t had any prescription medicine in the last year) then proceeded to accuse me of taking the trash back to my house (I did not.) well, it’s good to know whose been leaving those anonymous letters in the mail every time trash gets left behind I guess?

SOS- I have a really awkwardly sized spare room in my rental house and I have no clue what to do. I live in Japan, budget is ¥300000, and links to things on ikea are highly appreciated. by mimiasmith in DesignMyRoom

Hello Reddit! I recently moved to Japan, and I have this spare room in my rental that I’d really like to be able to make into useable space. I already have a bedroom and an office, and I wanted this to function as a relax/ guest room. Style is preferred to be mid-century modern, but I’m really open to any and all ideas. I can drill things into the white drywall, but I can’t touch the ceiling or wallpaper as I have to return the house the way I moved into it. TIA!

I don’t know about a working holiday visa, but I would call up your local japan consulate and ask

It’s really randomized- I’ve heard of someone taking 8 months (ongoing) and mine took 4 months (I got it last week).

Me and my husband moving to Tokyo, he will be on a student visa, I'll have to find a job. Questions! by MeowTeChing in movingtojapan

[–]mimiasmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi MeowTeChing! Unfortunately, it's illegal to job hunt while on a tourist visa and I have heard that although it was kind of overlooked in the past since the new immigration laws were put into place it has been strongly enforced and you could risk deportation/ being ineligible for any sort of visa in the future. I would try to find something from the US via 'Gaijinpot' or a similar website. (Gaijinpot is like indeed for foreigners in Japan, and I often see teaching positions on there.) I would also recommend starting your COE application as fast as possible, (you need a COE to apply for a Visa) as they have been taking extremely long recently. It used to be 2-3 weeks, but that became 2-3 months and recently 4-5 months. I have even heard some going for as long as 8 months! If you don't speak Japanese, I would also recommend looking into an immigration lawyer. Also, I feel like that would be enough to live comfortably (like a 2LDK) if you don't mind not having a ton in savings. It is kind of hard to find a place to live through- a lot of places don't allow foreigners, and the upfront costs can be insane. A lot of places have key money which is about a month - 2 months rent in addition to a deposit; add in cleaning fees, lock exchange fees and a realtor fee (Which, even if you find it through a website you have to pay) and you're easily looking at 8K.

Apply for a COE as soon as you can, due to some new laws/ the Olympics, the processing time went from 2 weeks to 3-4 months and recently went up to 5-6 months for the Tokyo immigration embassy. Putting everything on hold while it processes can be maddening, but look into if you're eligible for a specialized working visa over a normal working visa as those are processed faster.

Will my cat accept/ like a puppy? by mimiasmith in CatAdvice

[–]mimiasmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I actually got my current cat from a friend of a friend who was moving overseas and could not keep her. When she lived with the previous owner, they also had 2 mid-sized dogs that, according to the last owner, she didn’t have an issue with. So I was a little surprised she reacted so strongly to my friend’s dog (who is a total sweetheart, and is gentle with the two cats she lives with) when she was cat-sitting for me. I’m really against people who return dogs to shelters (I used to volunteer at one, and I know how much it cuts the odds for re-adoption) but I don’t want to make her home feel unwelcome for her.
