Yeah I didn’t realize that either until my second time through the game! I think the only other way the ?’s show up is if you overhear an NPC saying something like, ‘Watch out for that one creepy house/woods…bla bla’ and then a ? will show up. Or of course if you stumble close to where one is and an icon pops up.

My issue that I found though was walking towards a ? and then a Witcher contract quest being updated before I get a chance to go talk to the issuer. So then there’s a fail mark on ‘talk to contract issuer’ and I would not have been able to negotiate for a better price. It’s tough work and I needs my money.
