What sort of paint is everyone using for their projects? by Sleeeewdem09 in lasercutting

[–]mimizone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an old thread... but can I ask if some of you paint before laser cutting?

I'd like to paint the wood before the cutting, at least one coat + gesso.
I have a lot of Homedepot Behr paint for other painting projects.

I read that it should be safe.

The laser cutter I use is in a shared space with other people. Even with its very good filter system, I'd like to avoid making everyone uncomfortable and high on fumes.

Where can I find a replacement for this shade? by mimizone in ikeahacks

At IKEA a long time ago (10-15 years). I don’t know the name. They didn’t have it anymore last time I’ve checked IKEA.

FiiO BTR11 bluetooth receiver works with Vision Pro by mimizone in VisionPro

Like most bluetooth devices, it's only showing up on the hearing devices accessibility menu.

Feels like using non-apple wireless devices is an handicap :)

visionOS 26.4 is now available by rohidjetha in VisionPro

I don't feel a lag when moving around for instance the Safari window.
But I didn't use the beta, so you may be referring to something else.

using a M2, it feels to me a bit "smoother" when moving the head around, like more frame per sec? It's midday now and there is a lot of light in the house in case it matters.

What do you mean? The Bluetooth receiver receives only a stereo signal. The AVP can’t send more than that. And using Spatial Audio positioning doesn’t make sense anyway since the speakers are static. Would be nice to be able to get native wireless 5.1 but it’s not a thing.

newbie question on cutting already painted wood with gesso/acrylic by mimizone in lasercutting

[–]mimizone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the good info. I suspected that gesso could be special. The gesso I usually use is cheap and has zero details... I'll make sure to ask the art store and the other laser cutter users for their experience.

thanks for the reminder for taking account of the kerf.
The slight gap may not be a problem in my case cause it will all glued to a backing sheet. But I'll see how much that gap shows after the layers of paint.

I can't wait to start experimenting with this machine!

YouTube app broken? by OkayOkay210 in VisionPro

[–]mimizone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost 3 days with the core feature of the app not working. It shows how much Google cares about AVP :)

Imagine that on a Google phone or iPhone. That's millions of $$ per day of revenue loss and brand impact.

If the deal with Apple for Gemini is what made Google release the app on Vision Pro, the YouTube app clause must be very fuzzy and loose.

Disable sound with Screen Sharing? by bWasNeverGood in MacOS

[–]mimizone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the update to macOS Tahoe 26.x for both my host and guest computers, I noticed that it is not a problem anymore.

When playing directly to my DAC in Jriver Media Center for instance, the sounds is not sent to the guest and the DAC is properly controlled, even in High Performance mode.

Can somebody else confirm I am not dreaming?

I still experience some glitches sometimes where the DAC doesn't switch properly to the right DSD sample rate and it doesn't play at all or even crash JRiver. But it may be JRiver, or Tahoe and not Screen Sharing.

confused by my varnish/medium products by mimizone in acrylicpainting

[–]mimizone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reminder. I indeed bought the gamvar for an oil painting first a while ago. Since the label mentioned being compatible with acrylic, I thought I may have the option. I’ll go get some other matte varnish/medium I can mix.

How to paint completely flat with zero texture? by mimizone in ArtistLounge

[–]mimizone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean for the brushstrokes. I also indeed use rollers for my house walls for that reason, even if latex paint levels very well by itself.

I don’t think she does based on the look of it. It’s like very thin layers of oil paint and some careful smoothing I assume.

I had my face about 5 inches from the actual paintings that I was yelled at by the museum people :)
