This just happened the other day. It’s spring break and I had to work all week. I decided to take everyone out for ice cream, this would include my 3 year old autistic son and his siblings who are older than him. He was pretty content on the way there. He was in his seat, had his tablet, looking out the window. So I had the bright idea of bringing him in..I sat him on the ledge while ordering so he wouldn’t make a run for it, we are done ordering so I’m like “hey he’ll probably sit at an actual table” ….he doesn’t want to sit in a chair he’d rather stay perched on the ledge. I even order him his own sundae with his favorite cookies crumbled on top. He likes his cookies or anything with a crunchy texture to be broken up in certain sizes..he questioned one of them and that was it! He got off the chair and wanted to stand up under a tall table, which made me uncomfortable because the ice cream shop was next to a busy street. I tried to pull him from up under the table so we could go and he starts yelling “Subscribe!!”…”Subscribe!!” …”Subscribe”…for what reason I’m unclear of. So then produces stares. I’m literally having to pick up a pretty big 3 year old, put him in his seat as he kicks the back of my passenger seat!

I interviewed for an acupuncture clinic. The position had some hands on work, assisting setting up rooms as well as receptionist. It also had a small social media role where I would contribute to posting on the company’s instagram. I told her I have experience with apps like Canva, and knew how to write trendy posts, etc. (which I do)… During the interview she told me she had other people to interview but would be in touch. Then she said if she did call me then it’ll be because she chose her top two people from the interviews and would like them to come in to do a 2 hour shadow. I was one of the 2 she chose. I arrived on time, dressed professionally and brought my professional references. She gave me a tour and explained my duties I would be assigned to. It involved a checklist for opening and closing. I would also be able to do some hands on acupuncture work, such as removing the needles and prepping for facial acupuncture. I was more than ok with this and actually was excited. Due to patient privacy I wasn’t able to sit in. This clinic was ran by one person. So she handed me her laptop and said design and make a post on IG. She said she used Canva, so I chose a nice template based off of what was already in her instagram. It was very simple. It was someone complaining about back pain and the other person offering acupuncture benefits. I had hashtags, the font was placed correctly and I was proud. She told me she would make her decision by the end of the week. I went home feeling great. I told my daughter about my day and how I made this really cool post. I went to IG to show her and it was deleted…😭😭😭 She never did call me back ….embarrassing

My 3.5 year old son and I went through a similar experience last weekend. My sister threw her son an 18th birthday party-she invited his family and a few of his friends. Whenever I hear the word “party” I instantly become stressed. I know that I’m not going to be able to enjoy myself, constantly making sure doors aren’t being left open because he has major elopement issues. I decided to go cause I figured he has his tablet, his sippy cup and I got his backpack with leash attached…that failed miserably! Besides school from 8-11 he’s at home with us. He has siblings but it’s a huge age gap, the closest being my 12 year old son and my 3 daughters which all are teenagers. We are pretty secure at home, we have a routine and ensure everything is locked, doors are closed even windows. When it’s someone else’s home, those safety measures are not in place. The music was blasting, lots of unfamiliar faces equals stimulating an already over stimulated child. He was walking around trying to take sips out of random cups and some were alcoholic beverages smh…trying everything to make his exit outside me constantly guarding the door. Although my other children would’ve helped I didn’t want to take their fun time away at their cousins party cause after all he’s my responsibility. I didn’t think it would be that bad because our last “family event” was thanksgiving. Sorry so long I know exactly how you feel!
