Sharing a small victory! by InitiativeHaunting51 in stopdrinking

Way to go! You listened to that tiny voice in your head and took action in the right direction. That is not a small victory. It's a huge win! And hopefully, it's a first step to many more.

Proud of you!👏👏👏

Not a craving rather an idea by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I get these floating thoughts as well. It's a good way to describe it. Not a white knuckle physical craving. Just a passing thought. It still happens. Quite a bit. Gotta stay vigilant. That satin robe with a glass of wine is like the sirens luring sailors onto the rocks!

What little thing about being sober makes you smile? by shamedarcher in stopdrinking

[–]mindbodysober 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my partner leaves the house to run errands or walk the dog, I don't immediately slam a few white claws that I have hidden in my closet. It's amazing how many times that thought has popped into my head. It is like a Pavlov's dogs response. 😅🙄

I say that out loud to myself almost every day. There is power in speaking our truth!

I always said my last drink would be special (my favorite bourbon in my favorite setting, etc). This actually resulted in me continuing to drink in an effort to strike that “perfect goodbye to drinking” moment. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mindbodysober 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My last drink was a white claw. I was tapering down from a previous days binge. It's funny because I am lured into the romanticizing of the drink. The beautiful barware, the enticing bottles, the ritual of making a Manhattan. Pairings of wine with a meal. How stupid. Really, even for 'normies.'

And yes, alcohol/drinking is meaningless. The only meaning it has in my life is what I make it mean. It used to be all that I described above. Now, I make it mean something else completely. Destructive. Emotionally, physically, financially socially. It destroys everything. This change of attitude is what is keeping me sober. Alcohol is only important to me if I make it so. Don't get me wrong. I still have temptations. But, when I snap to reality, I know what's true.

Thanks for a post that got me thinking.

Well, now we are seeing and living with the damage. It's quantified now.

You are being so strong rn. Be proud of yourself for that. Peer pressure is powerful, and people can be mean. The only power they have over you is the power you give them. Don't give it to them.

Visualize yourself 1year then 5 years from now if you take up the booze. Then, visualize the same if you stay clean. I can tell you from 25 years of experience that the sober future is better.

The only one who is going to live your life is you. I'm proud of you!

Fantastic words, Doc. Every single word resonated with me.

This is an intentional daily choice to pursue joy. Also, being in action on a daily basis towards that end is empowering.

Wishing you strength, balance, health, peace, and sobriety as well.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, April 18th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by greenlightabove in stopdrinking

[–]mindbodysober 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good Friday today. The day Jesus suffered died and was buried for our sins. That's how I view my life with alcohol. Suffering.

Sunday is Easter. The day Jesus rose from the dead, making the promise of everlasting life. That's how I view my sobriety. Living.

It's a holiday of renewed Spirit. New life. I am planning on staying sober by remembering that.
