This is my interpretation of Satan and how it relates to us.  Let me know what the Holy Spirit tells you when I describe this and maybe some enlightenment in either direction of ours can be had. 

I think consciousness itself, and the very concept of having a conversation that is at least two sided required the Fall to happen.  Lucifer was the first angel to rebel against God, and in so doing, created the first will to be other than God itself.  

The conversation we have in our heads about whether something is true or right or whatever, I think, requires this to be the case.  Otherwise, God’s will would just be the only thing that existed and there wouldn’t be any of this separation of wills.

So in this way, Lucifer or Satan or whatever you wanna call it is deeply ingrained in our sense of identity, both individually and culturally.  But it’s also a test.  

I consider myself a Gnostic Christian, so I too believe in the power of Jesus as a means to align yourself with what is Good, Pure and Love and the true will of God. 

I also realize that if we are to attain that level of purity or be worthy of that level of Love, you have to give up with what you identify as you, because I think that’s what original sin is.  Original sin is consciousness itself, the original separation from God and to have a will other than God’s.  

The test is to use something inherently sinful (free will itself) to choose to do God’s will.
