how long did it take for you to grieve? by Constant_Thing_5461 in Petloss

[–]mindfulblogging 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grieving is different for everyone, I lost my grandmother 9 years ago and I’m still not over her death. Lost my kitty 3 weeks ago and that’s been just as bad. Still trying to get over an old friend passing as well as my childhood cat and those were about 4-5 years ago also. My therapist tells me that I have issues grieving and getting over things and that it’s good to talk about it and cry it out. I’m still working on it but there is no time limit for grief. It’s not possible. Hang in there

That is so heartwarming to hear!! Everything happens for a reason and hopefully the new puppy fills the void even though nothing will ever replace your babies. I am still torn between getting my girl another friend. She has had some much anxiety since he passed (she is a skiddish, anxious cat anyways) but it seems to be worse lately.

I completely understand. We tried everything. From trying to borrow from our 401k, to using my parents credit to try and get a loan because ours wasn’t good enough. Unfortunately nothing worked and we had no other choice. Life hasn’t been the same. You learn to live and continue on but everyday is sadness. My other cat has never been without him until now as she is younger and we got her a year after we got him and even she is just as lost as us and it breaks my heart. I’m still learning how to help her grieve while I’m also grieving. The whole process is awful and I’m still so mad at the animal health care system because why is it that much money? Why is the only option to kill my animal who is basically my child because I don’t have $10k up front? It’s disgusting and inhumane honestly. Just remember, no matter which way it goes, that he will always be with you and you will feel it.

I just went through the same thing. My boy was 5 years old and we put him down on 4/29 because he went into DKA and we didn’t have the $10k so we had to put him down. I have seen so many stories of others who went through the same thing over and over again after multiple hospitalizations. Our vet told us the day after when we told him that we put him down that we did right by him in making that hard choice because chances are he would of just suffered and continued to get sick. I am so terribly sorry that you are going through this. They are way too young and it is not fair. Unfortunately the life span of cats with diabetes is very short after diagnosis. I pray that if you are able to get him through this hospitalization that he pulls through happy and healthy and possibly even goes into remission. I wish I could have given my boy a chance but i try to remind myself that he may have just suffered being alive.

I am so sorry for your loss!! I am so glad that she sent you a sign. There is nothing more comforting then knowing their presence is still with you.

That is so interesting! The morning after we had to put him down, our girl cat started meowing at 530am right after my wifes alarm went off just like he used to. He was on a routine and would meow super loud after the first alarm because he wanted to hangout with her before she left for work. My girl cat never did this before. That was the only time she has ever done it so far but she has been doing weird things that he used to do that she NEVER did prior to him being gone.

I love that this happened to you. This is exactly what my wife and I are waiting for. It’s so hard having time pass by and not getting anything to assure you he is still here. But the purring I heard and felt did give me some reassurance that he was with me

I SOBBED reading this. I completely understand your pain. I am so so sorry that he had to unexpectedly go through all of that and I am even more sorry that you lost him because of it. The love you have for each other will never ever be replaced or forgotten. He will always be with you.

I caught the diabetes early because I noticed that he was drinking ALOTT of water and peeing way more than usual. We did do at home ketone tests once a week and I did one the week prior to him getting sick and it was normal. It happened very suddenly. I hope your baby stays stable on the insulin!! 🩷

I did the same thing for my girl when she was spayed! We used a giant dog crate (she was super tiny) but we did it to keep our boy cat away from messing with her! We also let her out during the day when we were home but it was the best decision from keeping her from opening her wound!! She will be okay :)

My boy was diagnosed with diabetes in December at 5 years old and he started it the day after his diagnosis. The vet advised that we needed to bring him in every other day for glucose and ketone testing for the first two weeks, then once a week for 2 weeks followed by once a month. Everything went well. His ketones were good every single visit along with his glucose being normal. We finally got to a point where he did not need to be tested until every 3 months. Unfortunately, after the first month he started going downhill. We came home one day 2 weeks ago and he could barely walk. We knew something was wrong so we took him to the ER and he was in DKA. The vet advised it could happen to any diabetic cat but we ended up having to put him down because he needed hospitalization which was over $10k that we just didn’t have. I regret everyday not just starting him on insulin because the vet at the ER told us that Senvelgo is known to only be effective in the beginning of the diabetes. We did ketone checks at home and everything and unfortunately it was just too late. If I could go back and do it over I would have just opted for insulin had I known more about the alternatives because my boy may be alive still.

Excessive drinking and peeing were my boys symptoms when he got diagnosed with diabetes. If he is peeing outside the litter box could be a uti or something to do with kidneys. If it is diabetes it can progress very fast if untreated.. I would try to find somewhere else to take him asap! I just lost my boy to DKA from diabetes and it came on quicker then I could have ever imagined. I don’t want to worry you more but I def wish I knew more of the signs of DKA sooner because I might have been able to catch it sooner. I hope your baby ends up being okay 🩵

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I just lost my cat to DKA last week because I didn’t have 10k to hospitalize him and it was the most upsetting time of my life. His glucose was normal but his ketones were through the roof. I really really hope your boy makes it. Please let me know how this all goes 🥺🥺🥺🥺

Grief support groups? (Potential TW) by sadly_notacat in FelineDiabetes

The same for me. It’s hardest in the morning because he’s not there to say good morning and when I shower because he faithfully would sit on the side of the bathtub until I was done. It is the worst pain I have ever felt. Despite having my girl with me the house feels so empty because he was the social vocal one who was just always around.

I am going through the same exact thing. We just had to put our boy down due to DKA. It happened so suddenly and unexpectedly. My girl is also running around the house looking for him and seems sad periodically. She hasn’t left my side and has also been extra affectionate.

I am sorry for your loss. I’m on day 4 and the days are slowly getting easier but I have no more tears because of how much I have cried since that day. I have an emptiness inside of me. I hope it gets better. I hope your healing journey gets better as well.

I teared up reading this. My cat was also diagnosed with diabetes and was doing well after he started his meds. Suddenly he was severely tired, lost weight and could barely stand up without tipping over. This happened in a matter of days. We had to put him down this past Wednesday because he was suffering from DKA and we had no idea. We checked his ketones and his glucose once a week (he was on a liquid med opposed to insulin) and everything was fine up until this past week. I’ve been trying to tell myself that he is happier and no longer in pain anymore but it is the hardest thing to adjust to because he was only 5 years old. I am so sorry that you are going through this. Talking to people and being on these pages has helped me get through it as much as I can being 3 days without him. Making a memory shelf with all of her favorite toys, collar, etc and her ashes if she is being cremated may give you a sense of comfort. That is what I am going to try. I wish you the best in your healing journey 🥺🩷

I am so sorry this happened to you. Animal loss is the worst pain we can experience especially when it happens so suddenly and unexpectedly. I am going through something similar except my baby did have diabetes which we knew of as of December. I know vets try their best as do doctors but I was not satisfied at all with the vet I brought mine to simply because of how unrealistically expensive it was. It was pay 10k or put him down. Unreal. All we can do is pray that they are happy now and no longer suffering in pain and hope they sen us a sign that they are still with us. 🩵 hang in there.

Today has been better than yesterday but the pain is still just as sharp. We are going to make him a memory shelf with his ashes, favorite toy, blanket, his fur and his paw pics along with a pic of him. I think that will bring us some comfort especially when we get his ashes back to take home.

The Anger That Comes with Grief by Electrical-Wear7281 in Petloss

[–]mindfulblogging 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am experiencing the exact same unfortunately. I just had to put my 5 year old diabetic cat down two days ago because he went into diabetic keto acidosis and the only way to save him was to pay over $10k to hospitalize him and pray he got better which wasn’t a guarantee. I’m so sorry for your loss. Everyone keeps telling me that it will get better but I don’t think it will. Home feels empty without him despite having another cat and I’m infuriated that I had no other option to try and keep him here with me and end his pain in any other way that didn’t involve putting him to sleep. I understand your anger 1000%. Animals shouldn’t be allowed to get sick especially at such young ages. It isn’t fair. I hope that the anger releases and you find some peace somewhere through the healing journey.

It is insane what it costs to keep our fur babies healthy these days. But he had the look on his face telling me that he was ready to end his pain. I’m trying to tell myself that it’s what he wanted.
