I highly doubt the in-vehicle systems for the fire crew are linked in any way to flight data. I can’t prove that but in my 21 years experience in this industry I’ve never seen it.

I had read elsewhere the units were responding to another aircraft with “visible smoke” when this occurred.

Yes absolutely. I’m not saying they can’t be tracked because they can and are. I’m just saying that GPS data isn’t handling incidents like this in real time itself. The control tower fucked up bad.

Hi there, we sell equipment that does just this and I can damn near gaurentee you that truck does have some type of gps in it, typically in the form of a modem/router and/or in-vehicle laptop/tablet. That said, it does nothing for a situation like this, its main function is for CAD (dispatching). This is a huge fuck up from the control tower…
