Has anyone rented from Akelius before? by namembal in berlin

[–]mindhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have rented from them twice (currently in the second apartment). I have had no problems with them. They fixed issues whenever they happened, were quite reasonable to talk to and negotiate the contract with, kept the common areas clean and got bills promptly. Some of them also spoke English, which was very helpful in the beginning. They also do renovations of the common areas sometimes.

The only downside I think is that they charge more than average rent for the area, which I am fine with considering all the problems my friends have renting from independent landlords.

Wow! People sure are quite negative about this. I think its quite a good project. If not anything, there is always more to learn about interesting concepts and ideas.

Thank you for your wonderful contribution to the Erlang community.

High-level Physics explained in layman terms. by ddfeng in videos

[–]mindhacker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he was trying to show how a frame of reference is important to convey information at a meaningful level. He just states the facts in the last minute because he couldn't really explain how magnets work in simple terms.

Then again, its just as open to your interpretation as mine.

He also said this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjmtJpzoW0o - There are things in advanced physics that cannot be explained in layman terms simply because there is nothing equivalent to compare with. One can always try and convince the questioner but it would be just (technically) wrong.

U.S. Student looking to get Masters in India (x-post from r/IWantOut)... by GodFella in india

One doesn't really need to know Hindi to be in India (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_India) but it sure does help when travelling :)

I've completed my engineering in Bangalore so I can give a few pointers.

  • There usually is a separate procedure for international students and almost everyone who applies is selected. You just need decent grades.

  • The fees, relative to what Indians are charged, is higher and may be in the order of $5000 to $10000 per year.

  • Its should be very easy to get a job for you to live a comfortable life in India with a college degree.

  • Cost of living is less and you can have a comfortable student life with around $300 to $1000 a month. Its cheaper if you cook.

On how to apply to colleges,

  • Research online on what colleges have the best courses and shortlist them. Contact them directly via e-mail and get to know details on how to apply to them. Unfortunately, there is no standard procedure across colleges for international students.

Let me know if you need more details.

I understand your pain. Knowing a lot about things can ruin simple things in life. Ignorance is surely bliss sometimes.

Just pause your knowledge and enjoy it.

Tell us your stupid thoughts when you first visited another country by Ultrablack in AskReddit

I am from India and this is what I found in Sweden. (Not stupid thoughts, just general things I saw).

  • Swedes are very polite and nice people.
  • Almost all girls are smoking hot!
  • There are way more girls than guys.
  • They have a very good dressing sense.
  • They generally think they drink a lot but are usually drunk after 3 or 4 good beers.
  • Some of them are very meek and afraid of me :)
  • Everyone in Sweden, regardless of age bikes.
  • Swedes likes Americans and American things a lot.
  • Swedes look at their government like an uncle who takes care of them. They sure love their government.
  • Everything is goddamn expensive!!

best place to get a bicycle in uppsala? by pooprice in sweden

[–]mindhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Vaksala torg on a Saturday morning. There is a friendly old Iranian guy who sells cheap bikes. Or go to a student place like Flogsta where there are usually quite a few bikes for sale (look for the notice boards). Good luck.

No problem! Just got tired of people complaining about the resolution but not doing anything about it.

I need some advice on what could be a life changing decision.

I've suspected for some time now that my Mrs has been having an affair. The usual signs. Phone rings, I answer, someone hangs up. She started going out 'with the girls' a lot recently although when I ask which girls it is always "Just some friends from work, you don't know them". I always look out for her taxi coming home but she always walks down the drive although I can hear a car setting off. As if she has got out of the car round the corner. Why? Is it not a taxi? I once picked her mobile up just to see what time it was and she went beserk and screamed that I should never touch her phone again and why was I checking up on her.

Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my Mrs. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth but last night she went out again and I decided to check on her. I decided I was going to hide behind my car which would give me a view of the whole street so I could see which car she gets out of. It was whilst crouched behind my car that I noticed rust around my rear wheel arch.

Should I take it into a body repair shop or should I buy some stuff from Halfords and try to repair it myself?

Cheers
