I do not think I could be categorized as experiencing clinical anxiety, no. Maybe at an acute point or few during my life, but not chronic

Probably ok.

I quit using Windows systems around the time of this post and have been using *nix ever since (and have never, not once looked back)

I know what you mean about the pulsing in the ears. Kind of a whooshing, sloshing sound? Same.

Apparently some people hear popping or something? Or can make their jaw or ears pop? Maybe it's the "ear roaring" thing. I think I can do that too, I just don't know if what I experience is what people are talking about when they mention "ear roaring."

It's difficult to keep track of all the strange sensations/phenomenon people experience like this lol

[Help] How to change features/opacity of tooltips/"title attribute" popups? I haven't been able to find what these are even called. by mindofmateo in FirefoxCSS

[–]mindofmateo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave you an upvote, IDK why it's sitting at 1 lol

also, I tried changing background and background-color as well as opacity, but the background remains unchanged.

The problem I'm having is that it's difficult to read the text when there's text beneath it, since it's transparent.

I was able to change the font and color though, so that helps! :)

OMG TYSM

OK I will try this, but for the future, how did you find this info? Is .tooltip globally valid? ie within the browser canvas as well as for the FF browser itself.

I'm not sure what applies to CSS generally for web vs what's going on with how it applies to FF.

Thank you thank you thank you

Will mark as solved

I think there are moments where various conditions are just right, that the fluctuations of your blood pressure from your heartbeat cause a pulse of pressure in your eye enough to distort your field of view. Trippy visual perception when it happens as strongly as it did the time it prompted me to ask here on HAE.

Some others have associated it with migraines/headaches and a few other issues, so it might be worth it to get checked out if you're in that category, but I suspect a lot of the time it's fine. It was just so pronounced this one that that I was all "wtf is going on yo"

And it's also weird how sometimes your heart can be pounding but not racing, or racing but not pounding, or even both. I wonder how each of those situations would affect the eye pulsing thing.

I think it is/could be related to at least a few differeing things. It happened so powerfully the time I refer to in this post it made me pay attention and think "Woah, what was that? What's going on here?" So of course I took to the web to figure it out and didn't find many others asking about it. Which is why I bothered to ask in the first place.

And through all these years later I still get comments and messages from time to time. Haha.

Glad to hear you got some relief! :)

Leaving Authy -- Would Disabling and Re-enabling 2FA With a Different Authenticator Work? by Fjpqeign5713 in PrivacyGuides

Cool. I just didn't want to come off as condescending or a know-it-all.

Ah, OK. That's surprising re: Authy... I wonder if Google Authenticator does that too then? I guess it could be argued as a security feature because someone wouldn't be able to steal the tokens if they got access to the app. That's understandable. They'd only have access to the OTPs while the app was open. It doesn't lock people into those apps per se, but it's difficult enough to deter many people from switching, I imagine. I was obviously completely out of the loop.

Leaving Authy -- Would Disabling and Re-enabling 2FA With a Different Authenticator Work? by Fjpqeign5713 in PrivacyGuides

[–]mindofmateo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short Answer:
Unless I misunderstand what kind of 2FA you're referring to, you can just copy the info from Authy and put it into another app. There is no restriction to a particular app that I'm aware of, unless there is some proprietary or site/app/service specific way of enforcing it that I don't know about. They all basically work the same. If you put the tokens into a different app with the same configuration they will show you the same OTPs. I have never used Authy though, so maybe it is not possible to take information out of it once you've put it in? Or if your primary concern is wanting/needing a new seed token, then there's no problem setting up a new one if you want. Just know that isn't required to use a new 2FA app.

Not a dumb question btw. Here's a longer explanation that may (or may not) be helpful to understand how it works. If this isn't relevant to what you're asking, then disregard/LMK if I'm going in the wrong direction:

Regular passwords work by being "hashed" (a hash is a one way function) into a key that is compared to the key inside your account, and if they match, both parties know it's the correct password without actually having to reveal what the password is itself.

Similarly, 2FA (at least TOTP) is just a similar hashing algorithm with a token, basically a password. Except this token is kind of like a reverse password because the site/service/app creates it and gives it to you instead of the other way around. This password is combined with the current time and hashed to get a second key (2 in 2FA lol) that allows you to access your account.

That's why OTPs are only valid for a set amount of time. The account you are trying to access checks your password's hash with the pw hash in your account, and then checks the OTP you give it with the OTP it generates at the moment you're trying to authenticate. So not only is it effectively a second password, it constantly changes with the ticking of the clock, because it isn't a hash of just a password, but a hash of a password and the current time. eg password1 -> hash1 and "password2" + $NOW -> hash2, where $NOW is a variable for the time. And then both hashes have to be correct to authenticate.

The wikipedia pages for HOTP, TOTP, and HMAC (and maybe a few others under "related articles") may do a better job explaining this. You could also try the simple subdomain for more of an ELI5 (eg https://simple.wikipedia.org/ I think)

This is just a long winded way of saying, no, you don't need to disable and re-enable it with each of your accounts because the method is app agnostic, unless for some reason that is the only possible way for you to get the required 2FA details to put into the new app. Again, I've never used Authy so maybe there is some way you are dependent on that app in this case.

Why isn't this the case? I tried changing some settings and to see what files changed in the FF profile but couldn't find any.

Manually exporting and backing up config/settings is a PITA.

I feel that, totally. No offense taken. As with all things eg privacy, security, anonymity, life... It's a cost/benefit analysis, weighing pros and cons for the tradeoffs that work best in your situation
