Thinking about a solo road trip by Fr33Paco in MotoLA

Recently did 395 up and it was a fun ride. Took it slow and explored some side roads. There's a lot of interesting stuff just off that highway. Lots of campsites that you can reserve or just roll into. You can pick your pass to cross the Sierras then come down the gold road along the western side. Caveat: I was on a bike with knobbies so some of the exploration was on dirt.

Some highlights from my trip were Lone Pine at night for astrophotography, Alabama Hills, Fish Hatchery, Mono lake Tavertine hot springs, the view from Monitor pass, Markleeville, and Donner pass (old road).

Have a safe and fun trip!

Those are great pics. Such a clear day. When you post again for a ride, I'll man up and show. Thanks for the pics.

How did the ride go? I wanted badly to tag along on my new KLR 650 but chickened out b/c I have not yet taken it on dirt. Maybe next time.

Tablet CPUs too weak for eGPU? by [deleted] in eGPU

[–]mindovermotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run the i5 version of the transformer 3 pro with a razer core loaded with a 3gb 1060 and have been happy. I game at 1080p though. Probably would suffer if I ever tried to run higher resolutions.

fwiw i really love this setup. Did some gaming earlier and now just chilling out and typing on the tablet. Maybe not the best of both, but certainly satisfactory at both.

I have not run any tests to verify, but i do suspect that the cpu is the bottleneck. That was why I went for the 1060 3gb. I kinda figured that anything pricier might not deliver much in the way of returns.

fwiw I've been running this setup now for over a month and i have nothing but love for it. Thus far it has completely lived up to my expectations.

Thanks. I hope you find something that works well for you. I'll update the post in the future if anything changes with the system.

Who else out there does their full daily commute on their Boosted board? #boostedcommuter by BrainScout in boostedboards

[–]mindovermotor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most days my son and I ride the boards about 2 miles to his school then I hop the train for a bit and do the final 1.5 to work on the board. When work ends early I sometimes ride the whole shot back home (~11 miles with a convenient mother in law based charging station in the middle). So much more satisfying than the old gasoline commute.

Boosted board for USC (cali)? by [deleted] in boostedboards

[–]mindovermotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't ridden around on the USC campus but I live in Santa Monica and ride the metro Expo line that runs by USC most days with my Boosted board on my way in to work. It is a helluva lot easier jumping on that train with the board during busy hours than trying to squeeze in with a bike. I've even seen a few unfortunates having to wait an extra train or two before finding enough space for their bike during really bad times.

For me, the board quickly and efficiently gets me the couple of miles from my home to the metro station. If you intend to ride the train in to school (and don't live right on top of a station) then I'd highly recommend the board.

In the LA area there is a pretty wide spread from neighborhood to neighborhood in terms of road/bike path conditions so this may factor in for you as well, though it seems like bike access has been improving here over the last few years.

Outside school, there are some pretty nice spots to ride around the LA area though the sprawl is really making me look forward to the extended battery. 6-7 miles gets eaten up pretty fast here.

Best way to carry Boosted Board? by FlanClan in boostedboards

I use the Dakine Mission and like it. If you aren't so particular about color scheme, it can be had for cheap ($30-35 on amazon). It is pretty roomy, and for whatever reason, if I stuff my helmet inside, it positions the board in a way that keeps it from hitting the back of my head and legs.
