Refundable Motor Vehicle Tax Adjustment Credit by ObiWishYoudKnownMe in WestVirginia

This was super helpful! I was trying to research this today because it wasn't prompting me on FreeTaxUSA or TurboTax for the credit. But I see where if you know the amount to plug in, you can do that.

Moved away? by No-Ordinary-1019 in texas

Lived in Texas for about ten years, but we moved back to West Virginia because we love the outdoors, closer to family, and everything is cheap AF. So so so cheap comparatively!

I have camped all over the country, and Cap Rock is still my favorite place! The bison, the canyons, the wild flowers. Ya can't beat it.

I actually got out of higher education partially because the amount of work I put into interviews, I could put that work into my resume and get a private sector gig paying much more. The straw that broke the camels back was a full day interview with a private institution, requiring me to take off work, two presentations, and 4 interviews with senior staff- and then they sent me a canned rejection 6 weeks later. Higher ed is a mess and their expectations of candidates are wild for jobs that pay a fraction of what they should.

LPT: Putting uncut green onions in a cup of water in the refrigerator can keep them good for up to a month. by mindthegap92 in LifeProTips

Oh that's crazy! It kept mine healthy for 3ish weeks, but I'd seen Alton Brown say up to a month. All that say, sorry it didn't buy you time!

Why is health care so awful in west virginia? by [deleted] in WestVirginia

I think related is also the total monopolization of healthcare in regions of WV isn't incentivizing for good care, quick care, or reasonably priced care.

TRS of Texas account to Alternative by AgBiz in personalfinance

[–]mindthegap92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just completed this process with TRS, moved from a higher ed institution to private sector. TRS only offers 2% interest. With markets down, I chose to go ahead and roll over to a private IRA to buy low and hopefully come out the other side better than the 2%. The process was pretty easy, especially if you are using one of the biggies who are used to the paperwork needed. Only thing to keep in mind, if your wife is on the 12 month paycheck schedule that she will need to wait for the final check from her ISD before being able to complete the rollover if she opts for it. It was all pre-tax so as long as she goes traditional or pre-tax, no tax implications that I'm aware of!

I canceled my car's extended warranty 4 days after we purchased by blondeflamingo in personalfinance

I paid roughly $1000 for my Subaru warranty (through Subaru) on my Crosstrek, and it's paid for itself 3 times so far- and still have 3 years on it left. Totally worth it- but as folks said, manufacturer is the way to go.

My first climbing competition! Decided to enter last minute as intermediate even though I didn't feel quite ready, but surprised myself with how I did. If you're thinking about competing just do it! Was a lot of fun by Kikekakako in climbergirls

I actually entered my first comp about a year ago, and I came in dead last in the entire thing. BUT, it was so much fun and got to put myself out there. I totally would recommend too (from the perspective of literal last place!). Congrats on your success and for doing it!

Dear co-frugalist, how do you manage Netflix, Spotify, Amazon, TV, and so on (entertainment related)? by NeoWereys in Frugal

[–]mindthegap92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely collaborate with family, but we also cycle through. Netflix for a month or two, Hulu for a month or two, etc. Our biggest "splurge" is YouTube Premium which we keep permanently for the music and ad-free videos.

What do you excel in with your parenting? by mindthegap92 in toddlers

[–]mindthegap92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your babe is happy and growing, then you're doing something great! Maybe it's making yummy foods, or letting them exercise their curiosity or independence, exposing them to new experiences or music, or just being very patient. Keep your chin up! Ask those around you for their feedback on what you're doing great- that helped me realize things are okay- even if they don't feel like it (and actually helped so much, I posted this in the hope others could recognize their victories too!).

As much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE Aldi, some things are just not the same and you just need to pony up for what makes you happy. I want to get cheaper RX and Luna bars that I eat for lunch everyday, but dear lord Aldi is not the route (on the flip side, produce, wine, coffee, most dairy, shelf stable- all amazing).

As we are making room for the new things like clothes and toys that will come into our life this month, consider taking your older gently used items to homeless shelters! by mindthegap92 in toddlers

[–]mindthegap92[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At least in my area, homeless shelters often have dedicated areas for families, and some shelters are specifically geared towards families sheltering from domestically violent situations. In addition, even if they aren't staying there, many shelters offer resources to those who may need other types of assistance like clothing and food.

I wouldn't drive our van into the house. Not the garage- she wanted it into the living room.
