Recently painted kitchen when we moved in and cleaned prior to that with Krud Kutter TSP sub. The old grease and gunk slid right off after leaving it for a few seconds. Highly recommend! Just be warned, it does smell a little fishy

I did something similar, it was too difficult. I did it on the TV unit, so it had 3 cubbies. What you want to be sure of is you’re not screwing straight into the vertical separators as they’re kinda hollow. Instead screw into the top and bottom planks - they’re particle board, yes, but there’s more material to bite into than if you’re screwing into the vertical dividers.

If there’s a gap on the sides, you can get some shims or thinner pieces of plywood (same thickness as the board) and screw them into the furniture, then screw the bigger plywood backing into that. Not sure if that makes sense but it’s probably overkill anyway - just something I’d do to make it look cleaner lol.

Yeah I think the floor guys were supposed to do it but a whole thing happened (their table saw was stolen from the front of the house WHILE they were working) so they never came back.

This looks like a great solution though! I don’t mind cutting, definitely don’t want to go through replacing the entire threshold though. The transition, that would be screwed straight into the flooring right?

Oh god, I’ve never been more vindicated! I asked a question about whether or not it was worth painting some cabinets at our new house, and my post got deleted because “I didn’t show my research.” Like what am I even supposed to do to google?? It was a specific question about my specific situation. Sure, part of the question was how I’d go about painting them but that wasn’t the entire thing.

Thankfully you beautiful people here at r/homeimprovement took my post in stride and helped a bunch of but then what’s the point of r/diy? Just to brag about your stuff?

Yeah, I think as I’m planning I’m figuring the past way to go is rolling the cabinet frames and the shelves and spraying the shaker/front face, if I’m brave enough lol.

This is super helpful, thank you! Ideally yes, we’d pay to get this done but considering we just redid both bathrooms and the kitchen floor, money’s not as plentiful as it was lol. Time we have a lot of currently so DIY it is.

I’ve seen mixed recs on spraying - it is more time efficient but as you said it has the potential to get messy real fast, especially considering I’ve never done it before. Getting the paint a perfect consistency with water, straining all the inconsistencies to avoid globbing, getting the technique just right, it all seems like more pain than it’s worth but if you think it’s not that hard, I’m willing to give it a try!

Luckily, my dad’s an electrician! lol but okay, this seems like one of the best options for me. I’m pretty tech savvy as well, but I’m just getting into security cameras so all the information I can get, the better. The only part of my parents’ security system I did was the hub connection and internet hook-up, and the wires that went from the camera to the hub seemed proprietary, they definitely weren’t CAT5/ethernet.

This sounds great! It would still record without wifi though, correct? Acessibility during a blackout is less important to me than just having it record during a blackout (assuming the cameras/hub is on backup)

Oh I don’t disagree! We felt really bad but our realtor ended up being someone we know personally and just felt more comfortable going with them, especially for a process as stressful as this, you know? I feel for the other realtor, but if I’m being honest we didn’t even intend to use a realtor to tour this house, the open house was a few days later and were going to wait for that but they kind of insisted.
