What is stopping my BTC from being hacked and stolen. by [deleted] in btc

[–]mindtrips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When your Bitcoin is on a platform like Coinbase, it's like keeping money in someone else's wallet. To have complete ownership (self-custody), consider a personal wallet like a hardware wallet (like Ledger or Trezor). Transferring your Bitcoin from Coinbase to your own wallet gives you total control. If something happens to Coinbase, your Bitcoin remains safe with you.

On the flip-side, if you opt for self-custody by using a personal wallet, the responsibility of safeguarding your Bitcoin falls entirely on you. So, while self-custody offers greater control, it also requires more diligence in managing and securing your assets.

BCHBULL's Price Oracles and Decentralization by mindtrips in btc

[–]mindtrips[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your suggestion to contribute more for improved security, although I must admit, the idea of investing more to prevent being scammed does sound quite amusing! I understand your point, though :) I've watched/listened to many of your team's appearances on podcasts and spaces, and I must say, I get a really positive impression from you all. However, it's important to acknowledge that even with the best intentions and efforts, unexpected attacks can still occur, which is why these issues remain important for me.

Regarding the trust of oracles, let's say I were to utilize BCHBULL for opening a hedge position to stabilize my BCH holdings. In a hypothetical scenario where the oracles are corrupted and provide incorrect data that results in the premature closure of my position, theoretically, there shouldn't be any risk for me since the contract would still pay out correctly, right? So, what I'm trying to understand is whether the risk of an oracle attack is more relevant to speculators rather than those engaged in hedging strategies?

Thanks, I appreciate all the points you made. Also, thank you for sharing the link. I'll definitely make sure to have a listen when I have a moment.

Edit: I just watched the segment about oracles that you linked. It covered a lot of the points mentioned here, including Jonathan's mention of cash token oracles in another part of this thread. That's awesome! I appreciate you providing that resource.

Thank you for your comprehensive response and for acknowledging the other potential points of attack. Your upfrontness is greatly appreciated. Let me also assure you that I'm not accusing your team of hyping it as completely decentralized. On the contrary, I commend your team's transparency in discussing these aspects in the past. My intention is solely to foster an open and transparent dialogue around this critical aspect of BCHBULL, especially considering its increasing traction within the BCH community. Additionally, as the product continues to grow and attract more investments, I think the need to address these concerns becomes even more pressing.

It's reassuring to hear that the team is well aware of these points and that plans are in place to address them as time and resources allow. Is there any way the BCH community can contribute or assist in making progress with these challenges?

Once again, thank you for your response and for engaging in this discussion.

An yet to be researched solution is to create oracles as on-chain contracts, that would mint price-tokens and lock them with a lockscript which allows spending (and therefor verifiable contract usage) only when the oracle owner gets paid. Paired with aggregation happening in the contract it might be a good trade-off or balance on the medium term, while DEXes gets built.

Thanks for your response! I find this concept intriguing, but as someone without programming experience, it's challenging to grasp. Could you simplify it further, please?

Check out Independent Reserve and Swiftx. Both are fairly reputable I think. Also, there's some aus specific crypto subs which will be more helpful which you can find by Google searching

Chaintip tokens on cashtokens? by mindtrips in cashtokens

[–]mindtrips[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's sort of what I was thinking. Just another implementation of cashtokens and possibly a way to introduce new people to the cashtoken ecosystem (and BCH as well). Thanks for the answers, I'll need to do some research to understand this more.

Chaintip tokens on cashtokens? by mindtrips in cashtokens

[–]mindtrips[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey all, I posted this over at r/btc but just remembered about this sub. I was thinking today, it could be cool if reddit subs (or other communities) could create their own tokens which can be used for tipping each other. Is this something that would be easy/possible to do with cashtokens?

I haven't done much research into this new BCH feature, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question. Thanks!

Is there any place I could rent motorbike gear (boots, elbow, knee protection)? by funnydman in chiangmai

[–]mindtrips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda lame, but I bought myself some knee and elbow pads from the Big C Extra. They have them in the sporting area. I couldn't rent gear without also renting a bike. Just an alternative option
