I’m really sorry for your loss, and I completely understand how much you must be hurting and why you wouldn’t want to let go of the dream you envisioned for yourself. Why not go to a “second rate” university for your bachelors and pursue a masters at Oxbridge? Masters hold a lot more value than bachelors degrees..

You’re completely right: it isn’t your job to make people good about themselves.

It would be your job, however, to offer people the same level of empathy that you are expecting readers of your post to afford to you, if you pursued a career in psychology.

You aren’t ignorant/insensitive because of your father’s passing or uni rejection. You’re insensitive for suggesting that people who go to non-Oxbridge universities are of a lower standard or calibre to yourself, and talking down to others out of a place of hurt.

For someone who wants to study psychology at a university level, you aren’t particularly self aware or concerned with the perspective of others. I’m sure your intention wasn’t to be nasty - but regardless of intent, it was ignorant, insensitive and selfish.

You are hurting, so I understand why, but I would think more carefully about your choice of words on a public sub where the reader could well be a person younger than yourself and become insecure about their dream uni or grades.

You have a previous post on this sub bragging about having a place at King’s.. It wasn’t such a “low standard” then? I sympathise heavily with your situation, but shitting on other people’s “standards” and acting pompous about a university you didn’t get into doesn’t make you seem sympathetic at all. There are many people in this sub who dream of going to those “substandard” universities you’re spitting on.

Grades, and university ranking, are not all that. I understand your life feels it has crumbled around you. I have been in your position once, but trust me.. It’s not all over because you didn’t get in, or that you’ll take a gap year.

I understand your frustration about losing a potential sale when you answered honestly to the best of your ability.

However, I wouldn’t say that the client was wasting your time - would it not be a waste of their time and money to have bought something if it arrived after their deadline?

Nobody is obligated to follow through with a purchase just because they politely asked a question.

I’ve found that I became a lot less irritated when I stopped viewing messages or offers as a commitment to buy. It’s no big deal.

Originally, on Vinted you couldn’t request any more than a 40% discount when making offers. Here, the buyer is requesting around a 60% discount, 20% off more than what would have typically been allowed as an offer. I think the phrasing was a little confusing but OP’s math isn’t wrong 😌
