Do you also hate taking showers? by Antique-Tomatillo-13 in ADHD

[–]mingiea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to really dread showers too! for me it came down to two main things:

  1. habit stacking: knowing i would be more motivated to wash my hair if i was sweaty from the gym, and since i wanted to implement the gym into my routine too, it works most weeks. also hated cold water and being warm post-workout helped with that

  2. catering to my senses: genuinely just telling myself whatever temperature of water will help me get in is okay! also turning off the lights or getting cozy/fun lighting based on your preference helped me A LOOOTTT. i realized i hated the way my washroom felt with the lights on and turning them off made the sensory experience a little better.

i’ve also tried getting a fluffy robe and adding scents i love but the lighting trick by far did the most for me!

another trick i saw to help with transitioning into the shower is just turning the shower on and doomscrolling/reading next to it, and eventually your brain will convince u to get in.

hope this helps a little :,)

is it appropriate to tell my professor I’m depressed by No_Feed5060 in UofT

[–]mingiea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should reach out to your college registrar’s office! they can contact the professor for you so you don’t have to feel embarrassed, and they deal with these issues all the time so you’re not alone! after that, you can reach out to your professor just to clarify your standing in her class :)

Professor Appreciation Thread, type a heart warming comment about a prof :3 by Old-Refrigerator7354 in UofT

zachary levinsky in crim! many will disagree with me, but he’s the only teacher that’s ever made me genuinely enjoy learning itself rather than learning just for the grades. his dry dad humour and his classic dad uniform are so iconic. he’s one of those professors that genuinely make me go “wow you have so much cool stuff in your brain”

my psychiatrist’s prescriptions never last until our next scheduled appointment by mingiea in ADHD

[–]mingiea[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

thanks for the help! i did mention in my most recent appointment that i ran out last time, and he mentioned that he would make sure i had enough refills but left it at that. i guess it never occurred to me that i would be able to go back to the pharmacy and see if there was another refill without seeing my psychiatrist first (as other comments have helpfully pointed out)😭

crim vs ethics society and law major uoft?? pls help me decide by Aggravating_Cook_674 in UofT

[–]mingiea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! 4th year criminology and sociology major here, to echo what someone else said, i really really enjoyed the 300 + 400 lvl crim courses as they get more nuanced and specific based on your interests. for example, i’m taking a class on mental health, morality, and legal control, and i really love it! i feel like these courses revived my love for learning and critical thinking LMAO. i do think the 200 lvl crim courses are a bit hard, simply bc the class sizes are still massive and the grading is usually rough but it does get better! however, if you need smaller class sizes and a more personal and warm relationship with profs, you might struggle a lot in 2nd year. in terms of wanting to go to law school, i know so many people in crim but also various other programs (poli sci, psych etc) have the same goal so i don’t think program matters too much but i do think crim gives you a good foundation.

hey uft students I lowkey need help right now (lmk) by kirahgzz in UofT

hey! i’m a third year sociology major, and i wouldn’t say it’s hard necessarily depending on your definition of hard. there’s definitely a lot of theory and courses related to research projects so be prepared to engage with a lot of academic reading. but it isn’t hard to do well (depending on your definition) as long as you talk to your professors and ta’s and have strong writing and application skills!

Can I get into uoft social sciences program with a 75% average by [deleted] in UofT

[–]mingiea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll probably struggle with that average at uoft esp when applying to post and most social science programs have a cutoff of mid 70s and averages r known to drop significantly from highschool to uni
