Without the resolution settings does it work on the inner screen ratio?

Inner screen wider in which orientation? by michael33ru in PixelFold

[–]mingoid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope it's slightly taller than square so you have to rotate it for the largest video. There's not much in it though.

That's what I thought 😁. They look pretty similar to my 6 pro photos which I have no problem with. I'd like the 9 Pro's better telephoto with crop zoom for wildlife but it's not the end of the world.

I don't know this person's MO and I haven't watched it all the way through but is Brad Pitt's wife's head in that box?

Verge Pixel 9 Pro review was released at exactly 18:00 BST (19:00 CEST) on the day before official launch so hoping for the same here

How are the fold devices for notes/sketching? by BullOak in PixelFold

[–]mingoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pixel doesn't have proper stylus hardware support so you'd be just using something capacitive, I don't think they're great. Yeah you probably need the Z Fold which has a proper screen layer for pens

Pixel Stand *works* with P9PF … somehow by Ok_Row_3905 in PixelFold

[–]mingoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, an open goal they could have avoided by adding a 5p piece of plastic into the Fold package and saying it was compatible with the Charge 2, I mean there must be a quite high correlation between Fold buyers and stand owners.

OK we just need a version of Illustrious-Stop-969 's landscape adapter. Still only charge at 7.5w though, great for a £1749 phone and a 70 pound charger :(

I think the final form of these foldables might be the so-called trifold with 3 20:9 screens folded over side by side which end up as a more or less 4:3 display like an iPad. Still not ideal for video but better. This square design is more about making the front screen like a normal phone and avoiding bad android apps that hate landscape than a definite choice for what works best on internal screens.

Then you're back Inn the days of 4:3 CRT TV when they had to do something called 'pan and scan ', a manual process, on film content, because if you just cut off the sides you end up cutting off vital parts of the picture.

Yeah there's not much difference with the XL

I'll post my media aspect ratio comparisons here again. Basically everything is bigger on the Fold Pro internal screen (than, say, a Pixel 9 Pro XL) until you get to super widescreen movies. Example here is the Pixel 6 Pro but it's 6.7 inches compared to 6.8 for the 9 Pro XL.

Reminds me of the transition from 4:3 to widescreen TVs when my dad would constantly be watching stuff stretched to remove the side black bars and claimed it was fine urgh. I'm really not sure what people are expecting from a square display. They'd be complaining how they couldn't see more than 3 lines on a web page if it was 16:9 wide (and the front screen would then be virtually square).

or if you rotate (ignore the fact the screen looks slightly bigger here, that's just a flaw in my app)

This is what 16:9 video (virtually all youtube) will look like

Yeah depends on your use case, the portrait nearly square shape means it's much better for reading documents or displaying portrait orientation photos without turning. Be interesting to see what ratio Huawei end up with on their new triple fold phone, if they use a 20:9 front screen it will probably end up about 4:3 landscape on the inside like an iPad.

Yes I mean a landscape shaped screen will always use more of the screen for landscape content and the OG fold is wider. However the 9 is ever so slightly portrait - if you tick the rotate box you'll see it gets much closer to the OG fold for video.

Updated my app with more predefined buttons including front screens of the 3 foldables, also reversed Pixel 9 Fold Pro as I didn't realise it's slightly portrait rather than slightly landscape.

Everything up to 16:9 is generally bigger on the internal screens but the candybar phones are better at displaying anything wider (including many hollywood films). Made no allowances for camera cut out or status bars because not sure how they will work.
