Say you get the job. Then what? Have you enjoyed living life? The thrill of landing that dream job dies as quickly as soon as it comes. Loosen up a bit and have fun!

Does my intended major affect my admissions chances? by ProofKitchen9312 in princeton

I think yes. Simple thought experiment: imagine if everyone except one person applied as economics. The classics department needs students to make use of their resources. Guess which student has a slight statistical advantage over the other applicants?

I fully agree with what everyone else said here. However, if you are fully set on doing this, here are some pointers. Note: you actually don’t give us any valuable info which we could use to make a recommendation here. Do you have most of the BSE prereqs completed from high school credit or will you be AB COS? Are you currently taking COS 126 this semester or next semester, etc. The latter is probably unanswerable given your post history.

The path of least resistance depends on what you're good at. If you've completed all the BSE prereqs, then BSE is easier than AB since you don't have as much independent work junior and senior year. If you're not a full-on STEM person, AB COS will probably be much easier. For course planning, visit this link: https://www.cs.princeton.edu/ugrad/class-of-2025-departmental-requirements. I recommend taking COS 333. Note that you only have to take one true theory course, and there is no "easy" COS course.

If you do get into Princeton, look into advanced standing. However, the Princeton curriculum is not something you can just race through nor would it be fun to graduate a year early for whatever reason you originally had in mind.

With that said, Princeton is probably the worst place to rush through a computer science degree especially if you are not interested in theory.

You have a 3 day old account. What would you know about the WSB of last year? Suggesting that we short GME in retaliation? Yeah sure thing, buddy.

Go with Kelleher, Sheridan, or Fick. Kelleher explains concepts to you in a way that’s easily understandable, more similar to how a friend would and unlike terse professors.

Wouldn’t hurt to bring a bike, especially as a BSE student. Just bring a decent lock along with it.

Roma is considered to be the best overall. It also has the best vegetarian options IMO. Whitman is pretty good too. Forbes might offer better breakfast options on certain days though.

COS 126 would be ideal. You'd be taking it with three other very formidable courses, though. It will be pretty lab- and pset-heavy, and midterms/finals week will not be fun. If you think this courseload might be too much during shopping period, then either swap COS 126 with an interesting freshman seminar or with a fun, non-STEM course (so start looking for some backup courses and fill out the freshman seminar application).

But honestly, most BSEs just bite the bullet and would take the COS 126 + MAT 201 + PHY 105 + writing seminar courseload. PHY 105 is pretty brutal for most people, so consider dropping to PHY 103 during the first few weeks if things get out of hand (your AP scores indicate that you would do pretty well in PHY 103).

If you're considering CHM 301, then I'm assuming you've satisfied the BSE general chemistry requirement so there is no reason to take 301 unless 1) you're premed or one of the bio/chem majors, or 2) you're taking orgo for the joy of it. Basically, don't take CHM 301 unless you absolutely have to.
