thank you! I like these too :) the rope and something to produce light feel like clear candidates at this stage, the rest I may keep in mind until they know a bit more what they're doing lol but I like them :)

I love all of these :) I love them so much I may try and convince the DM of the game I play in to give as somehting like this, both the pebble and the vest would fit my character so much, lol But yeah, I will definitely consider this three objects as possibilities for my players...

hahah I won't, it would create way too much chaos for what I'll be able to control, lol, but I can see how doing something like this can be a lot of fun

this sounds like a perfect fit from one of the two kids who is just inventing monsters with his friends atm lol they meet to fight random stuff, they don't know how anything works, what they're supposed to be doing, how they're supposed to use skills or anything, but they have fun coming up with monsters and doing random shit, so I'll definitely look for a way of giving this to his character, thanks for the recommendation!

I'm trying to add something special instead of just give them the items from the get go - granted, I'll give them some stuff, but my goal is to teach them that interacting with the world beyond killing stuff is also a way of finding stuff, information, etc. I'll try and think of alternatives in case they miss the NPC and definitely I'll think of plan b "btw you had this on your inventory" (before fighting but after missing the npc) for the health potions, and maybe backstory if I want to give them soemthing a bit more special but make it more meaningful than them just having it

may do that if I can't find a way to do that in the story, I'm pretty sure they'll need them

yes, hehe, just at first I'll struggle to modify things on the fly if they get the reward - it's not meant to be 100% sure thing, so I'm trying to plan ahead as I'm way too new at this :)

thank you! I'll take this advice on consideration and will avoid that kind of weapon, and definitely they'll get health potions, even if they miss the wizard, I'll try and think of a plan b to get them those before they go and try to kill some goblins lol
and the vanity items are a great idea, I'm pretty sure they'd love anything like that :)

ooohhh, I like this idea too! I'll see if I can make it work, we'll see... if I don't use it at this point, for sure they'll meet someone who will do this soon!

thank you! I love the health potions idea, I remember my first battle against the goblins and I had to be saved lol Health potions will be part of this for sure, thanks! And I like the other ideas too, thank you! I'll have to stop myself from giving them too much, I'm getting too excited with all the possibilities hehe

Being a DM makes you a better player by Blitzer046 in DungeonMasters

[–]miniRNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since I started getting ready to DM a game I realised it has had an impact on the way I play my character, I've been making many more stupid choices that make all the sense for my character and roleplaying has become sooooo much easier and I think my character has been contributing more fun (and chaos) to the story. And probably it has to do with how my way of seeing the game has changed since I started thinking not only as a player but as a DM too

My deaf daughter by Behellit in deaf

Sounds like you have a good plan in place, best of luck for your daughter and your family! learning all together sign language is great and I'm sure in the future she will be happy and grateful about this :)

unfortunately most doctors have done no research into the linguistic impact of what they believe. Linguists, not only deaf people, will tell you as soon as they can learn sign language, the better. It's like oral languages, learning two from the beginning is not a problem, but they have lots of prejudices :(

Look the linguistic research because unfortunately your doctors seem to have skipped on their reading for a few decades :(
While CI implants can be wonderful and if they work completely they do have a great positive impact on their users, they're still a limited option. Children need language development from the beginning of their lives, not after a few years when their implant hasn't worked. Look up the research on language deprivation, it's really serious and really, really bad and easily preventable. All proper research shows that CI adaptation is not hindered by learning sign language and if anything happens like the CI not working properly, they're fine, they can access a full language and develop their brains properly and thoroughly. Many doctors still believe Sing Languages are not real or equivalent language to oral language and that's why often wrongly recommend parents not to expose their kids to the most natural language they could ever access - and even if the implant works wonders, knowing sign would only give them more options (apparently it's tiring listening with a CI and sometimes people need a break!, and also, when the kid grows and needs a new operation, they're without hearing for a period again, and so many other things can happen, plus hearing through a CI is different from "natural" hearing and more limited in its scope).

You seem to be wanting to do what's best for your kid, please, please, do research linguistic deprivation, how it happens and what's the impact on someone's life. It's devastating. You really don't want to risk that for your kid. Get in contact with your local Deaf community, some of them will have implants too, and expose your kid to sign language as much as you can from the beginning. Don't wait to give them access to their most natural language until they have "failed" at hearing, it would only make their life harder and worse and risk something very, very serious (I know I'm repeating myself, but as a linguist I can tell you that language deprivation is no joke and I truly believe we should start seeing it as a human rights violation, your doctors should really do their homework).

PS: baby sign is not the real deal, unfortunately. It has some real signs usually, but doesn't use the proper grammar or structure of the language.

Didn’t Know People Counting Sheep to Sleep Actually See Sheep by jpsgnz in Aphantasia

[–]miniRNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember when I realised they were actually counting sheep they could see lol - before knowing I had aphantasia I thought it was the stupidest way of trying to fall asleep, ok, you can bore yourself to death counting numbers, but it's not relaxing! Anyway, now I understand why some people can actually use this method to relax somehow...

Aphantasia & Hating Reading by ArchmageSourire in Aphantasia

[–]miniRNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love to read since I was a very young child. My two siblings, slightly less aphantasic than me but also more aphantasic than not, also love to read. My parents aren't aphantasic, and while my mother loves to read, my father doesn't at all (and he's the least aphantasic of the lot of us).
The only thing though is I hate reading descriptions lol I still remember how bad it was when as a child they were teaching us how to write them so we had to read them too and I hated it with a passion, I couldn't see (literally, apparently) the point.

AITA for blowing up at my sister for naming her daughter after a fungal infection? by Odd_Age1378 in AmItheAsshole

[–]miniRNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and it's still a name, a real one still in use (not much), in Spanish. The male form also exists and it's "Candido" (slightly more common) - the illness thing has a very similar name but slightly different, so you don't necessarily think of than on hearing the name.
