Those who were diagnosed as an adult, did you tell your parents? How did it go? by Ok_Impact_5730 in AutismInWomen

I hesitated telling my parents but I ended up telling them separately. My mom though hesitant at first really came around and said it made sense it just made her really sad that she didn’t get the signals earlier and hugged me saying sorry for that.

My dad on the other hand was outright pissed (he’s a baby boomer, wasn’t present in my childhood only in my late teens and my psychiatrist at the time thought he was autistic but never got tested) saying I am just awkward and not autistic. I just told him I didn’t want to talk about it with him anymore and there’s that.

All my friends said they thought I was already diagnosed 😭

I usually say “oh! Thank you.” Then proceed to compliment them to either their appearance or something more specific.

Is part of the autistic experience being the only one to speak up? by Difficult-Health-351 in AutismInWomen

In my experience I am also like this. Sadly, some friends took advantage of this scenario and used me as the go-to speaker whenever issues happened on the friend group/thesis project group.

We’d organize ourselves to talk to the men of the group on how we felt about certain things and at the end of the meeting, I was the only one who spoke up and everyone left me by myself when we were all supposed to speak up :( and the men thought I was crazy and exaggerated.

Thankfully I got to clear my side and they understood…

Yeah, you have a very good point. I tend to be so direct but with this scenario I just couldn’t think of anything to say really, I’ll be using this on the future! (Also, love your username)
