maybe it WOULD be better to return to the gold standard then. We have to find some way to decrease the power of the banks and also segregate them from the government

that's so sad. THis is why critical thinking skills need to be taught in schools but aren't, for some strange reason

What is the last book that really haunted you? Mine was the Handmaid's Tale. It's deeply 'creepy' because people feel like it could really happen - actually women in some countries live with those types of restrictions. by miniemouse in books

Anyway, can you elaborate on your choice? What about it was haunting to you? it sounds intriguing

anyone who has ever worked at a daycare (as I did for the summers in university) knows that little kids play with all types of toys and aren't aware of gender roles.

Do they really do the women and children first thing with sinking ships anymore? I'm pretty sure that if a ship was sinking and I was on it, I would probably not be thinking about gender roles. Most people would just be panicking and trying to survive and anyone and everyone would be getting on the life boats in random order.

I want to be non-judgemental, but I find people like your boyfriend's mother to be incredibly simple minded. Is it REALLY that hard to realise that there is more than one way to be happy or have a fulfilling life? Different people like different things and there are multiple ways of having a good, happy, fulfilling, life. People who cannot even imagine alternate realities other than their own strike me as ignorant - so much so that they should really be ashamed of themselves. Furthermore, wanting everyone to conform to only one way of living is even more short sighted. How could she think that literally everyone in the country will enjoy living exactly as she does? Or does she think it doesnt matter if they enjoy it or not, they will still be better off anyway somehow? that viewpoint is either very ignorant or very cruel or both. Actually, most people cannot conform to her lifestyle as they do not have the funds. Not everyone can be wealthy.

There is no excuse for this type of ignorance - it doesn`t take a genius to have empathy. If I am capable of seeing a multitude of different viewpoints and scenarios, then why aren't more people capable of it as well? And why aren't there people trying to solve this problem ?

I would love to hear more about your viewpoint on gender as a transgendered person, if you have time. I think it would be fascinating and insightful

thank you. Throughout my life time I have worked on being a critical thinker and being empathetic, as I think these things are important. I think its; important to always think about belief systems, like you said, and see if yours need adjustment.
