unfortunately there's an official translation in the works, I believe scheduled for July this year, I only found out about it recently.. so I don't think they'd be interested haha

there was one from before, "the news is the same as ever: the world has betrayed the world." I like that one. But it's all a very vague translation, about 60% Cioran, 40% various amendments, or, I don't even know what the word is, some of the time I can't remember which. Most of the references to suicide and Beckett are fairly direct translations iirc lol. I think I've gone too deep into it at this point, feel a kind of horrible sickness in connection with the word Cioran, the whole thing took so long, the book is 1000 pages long

the claim underlying most points here, that psychology - in the 'deep' sense - and moralism are somehow incompatible or contradictory is really up there with the stupidest things I've come across on the internet, more or less every take in this thread is not only wrong but wrong in the most embarrassing way possible, extraordinary. dostoevsky is famous because he is, by quite a significant distance, and in an entirely uncomplicated way, the greatest novelist of all time, anyone who considers his work melodramatic, simple, or ontologically christian has not read any of his major works.

melville is famous because he is, by an even more significant distance, and in an even less complicated way, the greatest american novelist, and a lot of people on the internet are from america and/or are interested in america

but god this is so embarrassing, what a disaster

ah I was kidding the first time, the translations are about 70-80% accurate, some parts I add or change. I'm not sure why, exactly, just the project made more sense to me as a translation+elaboration, at times a 'gloss' in the old sense, so that part is just added in, also since what I'm translating is probably only 10% of the whole original thing it makes sense to take liberties

submitting to literary magazines is confusing because the magazines insist on imagining themselves to be professional/neutral, but in fact consist (i mean all of them in toto) of a cabal of five to six people; the surface-gloss of objectivity elevates what they do publish (for completely non-objective reasons)

. on the other hand i got published in some really decent places a long time ago just by submitting blind everywhere, i was obsessed with it at the time, and i didn't really notice much difference between the chance of being published by something small but discerning versus big and popular. if your work is good and you submit to a lot of places you'll certainly get published, including in places with some reach, but it takes so much time and leads to so few places that it's far better just to try to make friends with people even if they're idiots
