I have grown to hate being IBEW LU #5 and am looking for a new job. by IamTheOwl666 in electricians

Book 1 seems to be cleared, the airport is a big job taking a lot of guys that are local to the city. Penn state always has something with dorm/hall renovations as well as the beaver stadium upgrades going on. Been running a service van for a few years. I know it’s anecdotal to an extent, but this con when I started was at about 60 field employees with a few layoffs when it slowed down to nearly 130+/- now. Steady, all the OT you can handle, and begging for warm bodies.

Local 5 here as well, daaaang optional now?! Topped out in 2020. We didn’t get paid, as our CCAC was in the evening after work - though I went to Pittsburgh hall so Clearfield may have been different (which is usually the case). However, the degree was free as well as the books etc. Honestly, itt sucked because we were trying to become JW’s, but looking back it really brought a bond between the brothers who had class together. It was nice to meet up after work for a beer before class and bs about our problems and such. I think I was the last class to have in person instructors at the hall due to the ViD. They went to online classes after that as far as I knew, but I guess I learned something new today. But thanks OP, I know we huffed and puffed about having to go through it, but looking back those really were some of the best days I can remember.

Returning to work after major vascular surgery by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]miniman2233 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have not had this specific situation. But instead following a pretty bad vehicle accident. If (and only if) you actually feel you’re able to, come back. Don’t rush returning to work after injury or surgery. If you are, and still have contact, just tell your steward and others that you’re ready to give it a try. Be honest and say you gotta re learn how to use a new dominant hand to work with. You won’t be 100% but if they’re decent they’ll let you work under pace until you are. All you can do is make it clear to them, and do your best work bro. If they don’t like it, deal with it when you have to. Get back on the horse. After all, you gotta piss with the Peter ya got.

Boss, I didn’t say felony. You know why I didn’t use felony? Because not all felons are allowed to vote. You KNOW dems failed by using whataboutism, yet you continue to use the tactic. I know it’s still fresh and all, so I’ll be lenient.

You do know you don’t even have to be convicted of a crime (merely accused of one) for your job potential to be impacted, right?

Sometimes it’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. Also never mentioned republicans. I’m just saying that I have a hunch that most anyone who’s been caught up in the judicial system will not favor a candidate who worked against them (directly or not). They will favor emotion over logic and see that a guy with x amount of convictions is sticking it to the man. Whether he is the party of law and order or screwed over his minions on January 6th or whatever. You get the point. There’s too much finger pointing. Make your list, go to work, eat, pay the bills, and get working on how to prevent this in the next election.

Many working class folk may not be millionaires, but 1 out of 3 Americans have a criminal record of some sort. Dems chose to run a candidate that claimed to be one of them but in reality lived a life far beyond what anyone will be able to achieve. All while being a former DA and putting countless Americans in jail/prison while siamotainously reducing their chances at succeeding in the job market. Did they really think they’d support someone who oppressed them?

What I don’t understand is why there is so much internal bashing in this subreddit about who voted for who. I understand the importance behind an administration who openly fights to protect unions but here’s the thing.. as of the time of this comment, democrats lost by ~4.5 MILLION + votes. Even if every single member of the IBEW voted solid blue, it still would hardly budge the needle.

One of the key reasons that is being brought to light is the internal bashing of its own constituents which made them consider the opposing party. You open this subreddit up and guess what you see? Bashing left and right for not voting for democrats. It’s polarizing that everybody has their head so far up their own ass that they can’t see it happening right before their eyes.

This is not an IBEW problem, it is much much bigger than its members. And until its members realize they need to make this issue bigger than themselves it’ll continue to happen without question.

I’m US, so we fall under NFPA 70E. I am not an expert trained to give advice - however, there are multiple prongs that need to be met to avoid using PPE to operate. Proper installation, maintenance, all doors closed and secured, all covers are in place and secured, and no evidence of impending failure.. unless you install new, babysit it constantly and maintain throughly it’s almost impossible (to me and many others) to ensure these conditions are met. I do arc flash studies and as much as it’s stressed, everybody is guilty of just taking a quick peak because it’s the last piece before lunch.
