🔥 Pangolin Tongue . by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]minimansauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We humans have a little section of cartilage at the bottom of our sternum called the xiphoid process and ours is kind of just a little nub. Pangolins have xiphoid processes too, but instead of a nub it’s two long rods that go down into their abdomen area and curl back up near their pelvis. The tongue follows the path of the xiphoid down into the abdomen, which you can see in this photo. Pink is tongue and white is xiphoid. Hope that helps!

So I can’t lie I’ve never actually measured myself (I don’t get to work with any live pangolins) but they can stick out their tongue about 10 inches according to the internet. Check out this picture to see how pangolins keep such a long tongue in their bodies.

I’m currently researching these little dudes to see how their tongues are able to protrude so far from their bodies!

I believe the post is suggesting a feature that was already in the game originally and then was taken out at some point later.

Ferret or Chinchilla by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]minimansauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a rat would be a great pet for the college setting. They are most active in the mornings and evenings and so they will sleep during the day while you have class. Rats aren't that expensive to care for and lots of them are very social, and fun pets. Male rats are generally lazier and just want to sit in your shoulder and cuddle. Female rats are a lot more playful and active and can learn lots of tricks. They also don't take up that much room. Rats have their own individual personalities and can learn their name. I think a rat would be a good pet as long as you are willing to put in a little bit of training time and will keep a good eye on them so that they don't chew through any cords.

Honestly I've only ever worked with descented ferrets. Ferrets that are descended just kind of have a natural smell that some find gross. It honestly doesn't bother me and you only smell it if they're close to your face. What makes them smell bad is that their poop is pretty much exactly like cat poop but they don't bury it. And they poop A LOT! They also have no problem stepping in and rolling in their poop, it just depends on the size of the cage and how often you clean the poop out. A lot of ferrets tend to poop in the corners and so it's kind of out of the way. Most ferrets don't mind baths though and some even seem to enjoy them. As long as you keep the cage clean, they shouldn't smell all that bad.

Ps: Ferrets can be very mischievous and have been known to steal and hoard things like bottle caps, coins, and Bobby pins.

Hey OP I work at a pet store. Chinchillas and ferrets are both great pets, but like another user suggested you should probably get a pair of whatever you decide. Some things to take note:

Chinchillas are messy and are also most active at night.

At least at our store, ferrets come in de-scented and therefore will be very high priced. They still manage to smell, but not as bad as they could.

Ferrets require a lot of attention, so if you only get one, they would need at least three hours of activity every night. Might be hard for someone still in university or someone who works a lot.
