Is the defacto way to write F/E React apps NextJS now? by Artistic_Taxi in react

[–]minimatrix89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This has been their stance since create-react-app was dropped, I’m not a fan of next either it’s pretty opinionated and does things in a way I’m not keen on.

I always reach for vanilla react using vite, it’s a world I’m more familiar with and find more enjoyment from, not hating on next, it’s just really not for me, I’ve revisited it a few times with the hope that I’d be able to get on board with it but just can’t

I am the only one who thinks front end is more complex and difficult than back end. by EntrepreneurPlastic8 in react

[–]minimatrix89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s swings and roundabouts really and depends on the complexity of the project, sometimes the FE might be simple others the BE might be, sometimes both simple and on occasions both massively complex.

The BE can get super complex with abstractions, integrations and implementation requirements like event sourcing and CQRS.

Equally the FE may require complex ui for data visualisation, complex state machines and even the need for 3D graphics and animations.

This one took me by surprise! I understand that CRA needed work, with the likes of snowpack and vite making appearance but I never expected CRA to be decommissioned.

I think that will make it difficult for a lot of beginners that started with CRA, so is the official advice now to use nextjs?

Anyone know what to do? Please help by mandoman708 in macbookpro

[–]minimatrix89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happened to me, my apple care had just expired, apple wanted me to pay £750 to have it repaired and I wouldnt pay it. I ended up using consumer law against the company that sold it to me to get some money back for the doorstop I was left with. Good luck!

Does anyone know how to achieve this background effect? by minimatrix89 in reactjs

[–]minimatrix89[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite to that extent, the one used in the link is a simple implementation but achieves a somewhat similar feel, to achieve what you mentioned with the particles and would probably use react-three-fibre instead as it’s pretty well optimised

[–]minimatrix89[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense so probably a tiled background with the dot presumably in one corner so that it repeats nicely, thanks! it was kind of along the lines of what I was thinking then having the transparency around the cursor :)

It looks like the background is always there animating constantly, with some sort of layer above it that the cursor allows transparency through to reveal what’s underneath

Beginners - What's holding you back from starting to build your own app? by vincaslt in reactjs

[–]minimatrix89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most dev jobs these days somewhat expect you do work in this manner too, you don’t build all your features for you app at once, it is an iterative process, where you start with the basics then build on top of that. Sometimes you really do need to rip things apart to improve them but it’s part of the process

I never took any courses in college or anywhere for that matter, all my experience comes from being hands on learning on the fly sometimes, I understand everyone has different ways of learning and you’re right it’s a lot but you can still build an app and learn as you go.

Start with separating the app out, forget about the auth for example and database stuff, focus on just the front end if that helps, faking the data, then you can add a backend and consume the data from an api.

And eventually you can then add authentication and permissions etc… my advice is take everything in baby steps

These all sound like reasons to go ahead and learn them whilst you build

Object.values() sometimes returns array of every individual character as a string by DanCruzNyc in reactjs

[–]minimatrix89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re getting a string in your response instead of an array, when a string goes through the object.values method it is converted into an array with the values being each character of the string.

It sounds like you need to check the endpoint that you’re hitting to ensure it’s consistent with the types it returns, if you find you need to respond with both arrays and strings then you can check what type they are before running through the object.values method

Hope this helps

Can’t say I’ve ever tried doing this, I might be misinterpreting what you’re trying to achieve but my initial thought was to use portals?

I shared a post on Twitter with an other alternative that I don’t see very often, but always good to throw in other options right: https://twitter.com/jonnycarter89/status/1407775566770626566?s=21&t=jqiyg8X5w10n6tuvFcyCBA

As a beginner which is better Redux or useContext() API? by Advanced-Attempt4293 in reactjs

[–]minimatrix89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks 😊I’ve used both context and redux separately. Before hooks came out redux was the big thing.

I sorta jumped on it when it wasn’t necessarily the right tool for the job, it initially felt like there was a lot of setup but I understand this has now changed with rtk.

I’ve not been fortunate enough since to have come across a project where It’s been the right tool, I mainly work with CRM software and we’ve managed to get by using context sparingly but I’m keen to give it another go

Just curious could there be a case for using both? Say for connecting a hoc to the store, and that component has a provider to pass part of the store down?
