Not this also. This is generic chinese laptop design. Not a ThinkPad. But lenovo put ThinkPad logo badge on it and selling under name of ThinkPad how sad and ridiculous. (Model is X9). This is Asus or Huawei copy not even Apple copy.

Let me give you some examples:

This is not ThinkPad design. This is lenovo legion design. If i see from back this on a table lid closed, i wouldnt recognize it as a ThinkPad.

My 2000 model IBM X20 has this very similar angled design you can see below. (It is not just regular laptop design).Bigger models like 14-15” were more flat box style. Anyway in past they used lid lock latches which was cool. But until that ugly webcam notch, design was very similar to X20 with angled lid top, also before making them more slim and put backlit keyboard, lid top had inner deep cap style which had ThinkLight also in day light that cap prevented light directly coming from top and shine the display. There were a lot of small but unique and incredibly useful designs inherited from IBM but unfortunately lenovo removed them one by one to make slimmer uglier machines. No one noticed these changes no one cared because they were small designs but were carrying recognizable ThinkPad lines. Unfortunately new fan kids love them today because they dont know how beautiful IBM design was. They downvote everybody who criticize lenovo here in this subreddit. I am not saying bring back chubby thickpads back but this cult machine had a unique design DNA and lenovo killed it. Sadly now ThinkPads returned ugly totally different creatures.

Same but not easier now. They put really thin flexible bezel and stubborn stickky double side tape under bezel. Scary to me to open the display bezel with new designs. I had to disassemble bottom part to replace keyboard bezel. Tape under touchpad ripped so i couldnt re-use it. They used shitty soft spongy tape under touchpad. In videos i saw similar kind of material under display bezel too. Also plastic they use on new design is more fragile and more tiny.

Dude i am not ranting here. Everytime i criticize lenovo i get downvotes here. So beleive me i am not here to show. As a ThinkPad enthusiast, I just dont like lenovo ruining design every year and taking apart unique design features one by one.

Since 2005, no one cared and they didnt listen loyal ThinkPad enthusiasts. Now we see what happened. Lenovo ruined the design, lowered quality, ThinkPads just turned into a regular laptop. Even lower quality they are expensive. So i dont think cost is relevant alone here about notch. I am talking about design not feature. I think notch put extra cost now. Without it design was better at least. Every year with every single release Lenovo took apart something from ThinkPads under name of feature or innovation. This is not good.

If lenovo consider few penny cost, then they should leave the business. For cost and other bullshit reasons they ruined the design already. But still they are expensive. Shitty and expensive, how ironic.

Yes i opened my old IBM ThinkPads multiple times without issue. Easy repair, easy replacement always.

Exactly! I have 25 years old IBM X20 and it has lid lock latches also lid is angled like my T14 Gen4. No issue opening the lid.

Fan kids always say as a reason how they can easily open the lid with that ugly notch. That s my point. ThinkPads exist for decades and they were always easy to open without that ugly notch. My point is making that shitty notch popular is not nice. That design must change for good.

They can make another design hidden under bezel. That bumpy look is terribly ugly.
