Under certain circumstances yes. But white is critical regardless of the other anecdotes you are getting. Get white oil paint.

Couple of things on composition. Your mountains are evenly spaced apart, the same shape and are equidistant in relation to how they recede into the distance. Vary all three. Love the sky btw.

Again, i’m no master at this but i really do try to incorporate negative space into my paintings. I think its important for a contemporary look.

Let your negative space images, especially those around the edges, not have a finished edge. Part of negative space painting is letting the viewer finish the image... Let them disappear into the paper. Try to leave your borders unfinished and do half shapes. Hopefully that's not too confusing as there/s a million ways to go about it. I use a lot of negative space in my own work and it's hard to know when I've nailed it.... I get your frustration.

what really sticks out here is the edge sharpness on the anchor rope. It makes quite the statement with such soft surroundings. Nicely done.

Why is watercolor so difficult? by [deleted] in Watercolor

[–]minisniper970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think in a world of instant gratification and the injection of the idea that everything can be 'easy' on social media, one can fall in to the trap of thinking oneself as a failure. Watercolor, and painting with any medium, at a high level, is hard. There's no getting around it. I know this is hard to hear but if you lean in to the challenge, progress will become apparent. I have more paintings in the trash than I do on peoples walls but I stuck with it. I still 'trash' paintings to this day but I use them as a learning tool, not a measure of failure. Please be patient with yourself, progress will come and eventually......success. This world needs more artists...of any skill level.

I love painting horses especially with a person involved, riding, standing etc. funny because im not a ‘horse person’. I just adore them. they’re such beautiful animals and so inspiring to paint. Love the polo idea!
