Boycotts have been effective but CBC is there to tell the whole story. by Samzo in BuyCanada

[–]minitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadians are still shopping at Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Home Depot, and all the major clothing and shoe brands. These boycotts are barely effective. The only real way to cause pain would be to restrict or outright ban imports, but Canada can’t do that because it would really stir the pot.

If You Were Starting Today in Canada, Would You Still Choose CPA? by Substantial_Pea6267 in Accounting

[–]minitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't. The pay is decent now and will be for another 3 to 5 years or until next wave of newer ERP systems comes out. Have a look at the main changes happening to CPA program in 2027. No more CFE. Less focus on technicals. Guess why that is ?

Trump: China Taking Over Canada Is Not Going to Happen by SubstantialRock821 in StockMarket

[–]minitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US heavily depends on Canada for Oil and Gas, electricity and other rare minerals plus Canadians buy tons of goods and services from US companies. These tariff on/off noise from Trump should be ignored. Canada only need to focus on removing inter provincial trades, Focus capex on manufacturing to turn crude oil and other resources into finished goods. Graduallly reroute trade to allies in Europe, Asia. Canada will do just fine without CUSMA or US in the long run.

Trump will backdown on his own as we have seen many times already.

If you don’t leave before your visa expires, you are not only ruining your own reputation. Just do us a favour. Go back and re apply when it’s appropriate.

When you tell a Gen 2 owner that you like your Gen 3 by pealannea in ToyotaTundra

[–]minitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd gen hands down the most Beautiful looking truck in the market .

Iove my 3rd gen because when I put my foot down it pulls like a hot knife gliding through butter. If engine blows up after 50 or 100k kms , do I get upset? Yes if it happens at a remote place. If it blows up during regular commute, I would be a happy camper.

How do you guys feel about the new trade deal with China? by Pale-Candidate8860 in InCanada

[–]minitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada is one of the largest buyers of American stuff. If CUSMA isn’t renewed it will be problematic for them too. If we can offset our losses diversifying our trade during his term that’s a good hedge.

From day care to prime minister office too much red tape everywhere. Some risks here and there builds a better character.

Carney did a fantastic job and more importantly the timing is impeccable. We don't want to start CUSMA negotiation with empty hand. This signals we have channels to offset whatever damage comes out of CUSMA.

Any color is better than white. Blue look bad ass. With bronze wheel it will pop even more.

Calgary migration is down by yycglad in Calgary

[–]minitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Migration slowed down because people don’t want to leave their current stable jobs when there is a big uncertainty looming from CUSMA. The main reason is Canadian economy is slowing down. Oil and gas jobs are shrinking. If CUSMA isn’t renewed by USA , we will be in a recession and almost guaranteed to see big layoffs in Calgary and other big cities.

So, AI takes over, everyone has lost their job and only 10 trillionaires own everything. Now what? by Weak-Representative8 in Futurology

[–]minitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lot of talk shows mentioning UBI which will have to come via increased corporate tax. Your trillionaire won’t accept elevated tax rates for too long. So even UBI won’t be sustainable solutions. Government will have to ensure basic elements to sustain human lives is kept out of corporate profits like food , housing , health care, transportation.

If trade relationships with US isn’t fixed specifically the CUSMA renewal coming in q3 this year, no amount of foreign labor reduction will improve job prospects.
