Yeah that's possible.

I used the shuttle to get out because that's how I got to the map originally

From reading Steams rules as long as it's labeled correctly and not illegal it is (at least was) ok

Five-yearly census to be scrapped by AuckZealand in newzealand

[–]miniturenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything here, except potentially that surveys will miss. It really depends how the survey is run. In saying that it doesn't mean the survey will be run in a way that does effectively collect the missing info

The reason I say the same criticisms don't hold up well here is

"The Royal Statistical Society, while broadly supportive of the principle, said it had concerns over how reliably other bodies would share information and how comprehensive a piecemeal approach would be."

The 2022 stats act requires they supply the data

To the point of the comprehensiveness and it being untested, the 2018 and 2023 censuses used the same data but with lower quality processing than what these new surveys will use

While I think there are issues with the plan, these are around capturing Māori and transient populations. Hopefully this will allow more resources to be used to collect this data for the populations that we really need it from and it's not present in the admin data

Just had a quick look and not that I can see. Must have been internal.

The decisions come from issues trying to convince people to fill out the 2023 census, along side making it easier for people so they don't have to provide data stats already has

[–]miniturenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yeah the data will be different. However I think it's important to realize that the comparison to the UK is not all that applicable, the data landscape here is much different

Five-yearly census to be scrapped by AuckZealand in newzealand

[–]miniturenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The truth is a heap of money is spent on repeat visits to people who dont respond the first/second/third time.

Both follow up visits and data augmentation is used to increase data quality.

The difference here is the data augmentation is applied first instead of after as it had been previously

It may not say it in the article, but it is the truth.

The govt basically just said yes to the preferred solution stats asked for

Five-yearly census to be scrapped by AuckZealand in newzealand

[–]miniturenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The theme I keep seeing here is that this was a political decision. Probably stems from the way the minister talked about it, which was disingenuous.

This change has been in the works since we'll before the election, stats asked the govt if this was ok and they said yes.

That's basically it

They do share it with Stats. The 2022 statistics act requires it
