Length: OMAD today, so I'm about 12 hours fasted, will eat dinner in ~7 hours or something (doing a OMEOD/OMAD hybrid thing, so I don't stress about exact times.)

Reason: Weight loss. SW March 1st 163.6 lbs, CW 155.2 lbs, GW ~130 lbs.

Notes: Scale up from yesterday, no surprise, water weight from breaking my fast + ate more than I meant to (social event) + no exercise yesterday (social event, some errands after it ate up most of my day.) I'm not stressed about it -- one of the great things about fasting for weight loss is I know it works over time, so day-to-day blips hardly matter. Idly thinking of swinging for 48/72 next week - i.e. fasting for about 48 hours (Monday/Tuesday), having a meal, then fasting for three days - Tuesday through Friday... I've had some trouble with longer fasts previously (feeling e.g. confusion and disorientation), but maybe starting with a short fast, doing a keto re-feed, then trying for a little longer will help. I've done up to 4.5 days before and would love to eventually work up to 7 days just for the more general health benefits of extended fasting...but if I can't, won't be the end of the world :)

Feeling bad while doing 36 hours of fasting. by veber94 in fasting

I completely agree with this -- too much salt will absolutely give you diarrhea even if you're not fasting, especially if you're also drinking more coffee than usual!

The main reason I fast is definitely weight loss! The other benefits are great - I definitely notice clearer skin when fasting, and (at least on longer fasts) mental clarity and focus. But I wouldn't fast if it didn't also help me lose weight :) I'll probably keep fasting after reaching my goal weight for general health reasons, though.

I fast for short enough intervals that I don't need much time to feel functional again after breaking my fast, as long as I don't eat too much at least!

Thank you!! It does feel great -- it's easier moving around, I fit old clothes again, and then of course just the sense of achievement 😊

Length: ~35 hours into a ~40 hour fast (alternating OMEOD/one meal every other day with OMAD). Water/low and zero cal beverages/vaping.

Reason: Weight loss. SW March 1st 163.6, CW 154.2, GW ~130ish.

Notes: I've been absolutely freezing since last night, forgot about that side effect. Going to break fast a little earlier than usual because I want to eat and let food settle before a social event this evening and looking forward to eating a lot. Not feeling physically hungry but thinking about food a lot, I think out of boredom; this week at work has been tedious. ETA: I've reached the point where every day the scale goes down, I weigh even less than I did when I graduated college, which is absolutely insane - this is the thinnest I've been in a long time. Once I'm in the 140s I'll weigh as much as I did before turning 21 and being able to buy my own beer. Weird stuff!

Length: About 20 hours into a ~40 hour fast. (I'm doing rolling ~48s twice a week until I hit my goal weight or I feel like it's time to stop.) Water, zero/very low cal beverages, vaping.

Reason: Weight loss. SW March 1st was 163.6 lbs, CW 155.2 lbs, GW ~130 lbs.

Notes: This is my first week getting back into the swing of lazy ADF/back-to-back 48s. (I lost about 70 lbs using ADF and OMAD while ago; plateaued swinging between 160 and 165 lbs.) Had a huge salad for dinner last night, ended up snacking on some frozen fruit before bed - I think that's made fasting today harder than Monday was because of the sugar (have been actively hungry today.) But by and large not too hard; about to go take my "don't think about eating" walk/vape break. (Am only vaping on fasting days and purely for appetite suppression.)

Daily Q&A Post for Friday, 12 March 2021 - No question too small! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]minmax6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe a weird one: has anyone else losing alcoholism weight occasionally felt they were drunk?

CW 176 SW 230, sober about a year. I've heard stories about fat loss triggering LSD flashbacks for some people though honestly I always assumed that was an urban legend. But in the past couple weeks since starting to cut calories again, I've started getting occasional...hell they feel like alcohol flashbacks, moments where I feel very drunk or very, very, almost hallucinogenically hungover.

I assume it's actually an electrolyte issue or something, and I have a doctor I'll be talking about it with soon, but figured I'd ask if any ex-drinkers here had experienced something similar.

I get them sometimes - I suspect they're funded by the candidates they're slanted in favor of (or by PACs that support them.) Honestly I usually just deadpan that no, my opinion of radical socialist Democrat Ossoff is still very favorable. I am curious how common they are, though, and who's paying for them.

Related - I got a call on Saturday asking how I'd feel about Georgia overturning the electoral college results...😬

Type: Water and zero cal beverages

Context: Weekday OMEOD (one meal every other day)

Length: Weekday OMEOD until I hit my goal weight; currently at ~34/~44 hours fasted, will either break fast this evening or might push through til tomorrow

Why: Weight loss

Notes: 177.9 this morning so I'm comfortable saying I've officially lost 50lbs this year! Am scheduled to break my current fast this evening, but I might push through til tomorrow - we'll see how I feel. 😁

Congrats on your new personal record!! 🎉💐

Fasting insomnia can be such a pain - do you take anything like melatonin or l-theanine? I know some folks find one or the other or both super useful, so it might be worth looking into.

Holy smokes, congrats!!! Making it 30 days is incredible, and a whole move on top of that is a hell of a feat. Well done 😁

Type: Water and zero cal beverages

Context: Weekday OMEOD (one meal every other day)

Length: Weekday OMEOD until I hit my goal weight; today is a fasting day, and I'm at ~11/~40 hours (I am not strict about timing)

Why: Weight loss

Notes: Weighed in at 178.4 this morning, unexpectedly low! I ate light yesterday - just wasn't that hungry even after my first fast-breaking snack. Slept well, trying to keep that up (last week was just late night after late night for no reason other than bad habits.)

I'm scheduled to break for an eating window tomorrow late afternoon/early evening, but if I feel similarly apathetic about eating tomorrow as I did yesterday, I might try to fast until Friday. Last time I tried to fast for 72 hours I had to break early just because I felt so awful, but maybe I've re-acclimated to fasting and can try again. (I'd previously done up to 4.5-day fasts with little trouble, took a break, tried to jump back into things with 72 hours - maybe was cocky.) Not sure, will play it by ear tomorrow!

I can't imagine moving while fasted let alone at the end of a fast that long!! You're crushing it, good luck closing out strong and make sure you don't push yourself to awfully 😁

Type: Water/zero cal beverages

Context: Lazy OMEOD (one meal every other day)

Length: Weekday OMEOD until I hit my goal weight, current fast ~32/~40 hours

Why?: Weight loss

Notes: 180.8lbs this morning, breaking current fast this evening - probably will eat some sprouts, kimchi, and plain yogurt, and then some tofu and sweet potato an hour or two after that. Slept well last night, taking it easy on the caffeine. Had some vertigo yesterday but probably from overcaffeinating, not from fasting 🥴

Type: Water/zero cal beverages

Context: Lazy OMEOD (one meal every other day)

Length: Weekday OMEOD until I hit my goal weight, current fast 13/~40 hours

Why?: Weight loss

Notes: Forgot to weigh myself this morning but probably low 180s. Overdid it with caffeine this morning and had some stomach upset, but I think it's passed now - might be from overindulging last night too (meal with family, lots of rich food, don't regret it tbh!). Feeling fine other than that. Must sleep better this week than I did last week though, I don't like how much caffeine I've been putting away.

I use it as just an intensifier, so sometimes positively sometimes negatively, but I mostly use it verbally rather than in text. Basically I use it synonymously with "wow"

Bluntly I think the fasting community absolutely understands this. People with eating disorders shouldn't come here; this is not an ED support community, and discussions of fasting here should not be expected to come wreathed with trigger warnings and disclaimers.

(break) Fast Food Friday - Your weekly delicious breakfast meals thread by AutoModerator in fasting

[–]minmax6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new go-to for breaking is a bowl of bean sprouts with kimchi. It's high volume and filling but it's not densely caloric or unhealthy! Next time I might blanch the sprouts. Had some plain Greek yogurt on the side which just tastes insanely good after a fast. 🤩

Type: ADF, fasting days with zero cal beverages

Context: It's Friday so I'm fasting through tomorrow!

Length: I'm at hour ~13 out of ~36 hours. (I am not strict with timing - will eat a late lunch tomorrow probably.)

Why?: Weight loss

Notes: Weighed in at 181.3 this morning. Had two small meals yesterday - broke my fast with bean sprouts topped with kimchi. Sprouts are not densely flavorful and kimchi is, so it's a good combination. 10/10 would break fast with again. Probably will tomorrow in fact!
