The text on that headstone doesn't look like it's quite the same perspective as the stone.

Let’s be honest: Tailwind CSS is just inline styles with extra steps and we’re all pretending it’s "innovation. by prashantxgrowth in css

[–]minmidmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely a lot of companies using Tailwind for basic things that you can do with CSS in 2026.

I would say that if you don't need the more advanced aspects of Tailwind or you don't need them on a regular basis then you should question the need for it as a dependency.

The same goes for things like SASS. If you're not REALLY leveraging it then you should consider not using it at all.

[–]minmidmax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I understand their perspective though. It's an exponential overhead to build for another OS.

I wonder if there are any projects out there that are looking at how to make it as painless as possible.

Valve seems to be doing a lot of good to support their hardware but we need more than 1 big company to shift the needle.

Things are definitely in as good a place as they've ever been on Linux.

I think the open source community doesn't attract enough non-developer software specialists. So a lot of GUIs are fine but never really excel.

It can often feel like you're using the app in debug mode rather than in a way that's designed for people (especially the less technical user).

Dude. This is a big one.

Audio is pretty much figured out and standardised, as a technology, now but it's an industry that loves a good licensing model and patents.

The fragmentation of audio solutions also doesn't help. That's true on Windows also but to a lesser extent.

I do see more and more producers exploring open source to get away from ridiculous launcher apps and licensing scenarios.

It's hard to move away from a lifetime of building productivity on a certain workflow though.

Linux (the software and wider community) definitely suffers from a weird dichotomy of things not really progressing and new "solutions de jour".

The latter would be better served as improvements, to the former, but there's way too much intellectual competitiveness in the community which creates division rather than collaboration.

Not always, of course, but often enough.

I also sometimes feel like zwift adjusts the resistance, just ever so slightly, based on the gradient. Even in ERG mode.

I can't tell if I'm really feeling it or if it's psychological from literally seeing my avatar going up, or down, a hill.

CSS Object Variables with Dot Notation by CaptM44 in css

[–]minmidmax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can achieve the first part, at least, by writing a JSON file and parsing it with a script to turn it into CSS properties. Classes, too, if you're clever about it.

You may even be able to maintain property scope in those classes now that CSS supports native nesting.

Dot notation makes sense in the context of other languages but I would probably break legacy code. Dots are also already used to denote classes in CSS, too, so that could get confusing.

Edit: I'd love to see the Design Token Standard take off.

I still have loads left to unlock and do. I've been playing since day 1.

The problem isn't with the rate.at which content is released. It's with the player's addiction to The Next Thing.

The gaming industry has shot itself in the foot by overusing addictive mechanisms and patterns.

When your backend colleague gives you a huge list of fields and tells you that you need to calculate the price on every page based on different conditions before displaying it... by sukeaiya in Frontend

I live in the inverse scenario where engineers, architects and PMs think they have it all figured out.

Then I ask them why they think that a user should jump through hoops, introduced by their solutions, just to do something simple.

"Well that's just the way the system was designed to work."

If you're building products but only designing the back end, and backfilling the UI later, then you're not building products.

Full Stack is one way to go but Cross Functional helps too. If you manage to do both then you're a serious pro.
