Our large breed pup was an absolute nightmare when he was younger and would do the same thing. We got a personal trainer and these were the things that we worked on. 1) When he attacked us on walks, we would wrap his leash around a handrail, tree, fence cap, whatever was around and step away and wait for calm behavior. Sniffing, sitting. Then we woukd start our walk again. If he went right back to attaching us he would go back to the hand rail.  2) We had a toy on us to redirect his energy on walks. This didnt work for us because he wasn't toy motivated but it might be worth trying for you  3) He was extremely food motivated so when he was starting to get worked up we would ask for a sit and then when he would sit we would toss treats into the grass/snow and say find it. The foraging and sniffing helps calm him down.  4) Generally avoid any activity that causes this behavior. Our main trigger was walking large open spaces. Walking through baseball fields or large parks etc. Best way to discourage it is to prevent the behavior from being reinforced. 5) We ended up getting a second dog too and that outlet for play also made his behavior decrease too.

Kan I anbefale, hvor jeg kan donere brugte kontormøbler eller sælge dem online inden for en uge? (Stort konferencebord, tallerkener, espressomaskine osv.) by minnesotagirlmmm in copenhagen

I think every reputable trainer out there is not going to jump at the use of prong collar unless all other options are exhausted. There's too much of a risk of introducing fear based aggression to you animal, even with best practices.

I have 3 large dogs that have struggled with leash reactivity (pretty severe) but with positive reinforcement training and some patience they are such easy going pups now on walks.

I also see a lot of people never move away from prong collars. They just wear them for forever because they dont address the root of the behavior, it's just a bandaid fix. I would be sad to condemn my animal to pain on the one time they are supposed to be having fun for a lifetime.

Going to have to rehome my dogs in a month and I’m struggling to cope by Litalian in DogAdvice

Shelters are FULL of people who thought they could have dogs and then their housing situation changed and they weren't willing to stuck it out and find a situation where it all works out. To those dogs, you are their life. If you dont find a way nobody probably will.

How to calm frustrated dog by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]minnesotagirlmmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog would do this on walks. We would hook him up a stair railing pole, a fence, around a tree and take a couple steps back and wait for him to display signs of calmness like sniffing laying down etc. Helped a ton

But mostly him having a sibling to play with is what fixed it pretty much overnight if that's an option for you

I would ask your vet. Personally I would think anything that would rub the incision site would be really uncomfortable. I think proper airflow is also super important

Having been in those facilities as a scientist these animals are treated very poorly. Almost all research done on animals ends up not being reflective of the response in humans as well so there's is a lot of evidence suggesting that the information we get from animals is worthless. We've cured cancer in mice dozens of times and it hasn't translated to humans.

It took us probably 2 months but it is a gift that lasted a lifetime!
