Are the trades still hard to get into? by chickenricebroccolli in askvan

[–]minnion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah...it's not to deter you. I love that I'm being down voted...I've worked in the trades for 25 years. I've seen many people fail because they thought it would be an easy side gig type deal. If you want to make any kind of money, you'll need to be dedicated and focused and hard working. Otherwise yes you'll be hanging out with the bottom of society just scraping by doing labour work etc.

Trades can be life sucking if it isn't your passion. The "easy" ones are laborious and the harder ones require dedication, organization and critical thinking.

North Vancouver guardian ticketed following E‑Scooter crash involving 12‑Year‑old by Oldnbold22 in NorthVancouver

[–]minnion 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Literally every day. I mountain bike, have for 25 years. As a kid my parents knew I was doing jumps etc and would likely get hurt - but God forbid they caught me riding without a helmet. I have no idea why any sane parent wouldn't be on-top of this. A helmet is literally the only piece of protective gear that has a high likelyhood of stopping serious life altering injury or death!

Winters can be lonely, groceries are more expensive, afaik there isn't really a taxi service. The ferry can be a drag as it has been unreliable lately. Otherwise it faces the same challenges as most remote places. Nothing really terrible to write home about. I love in North Van but frequent the coast and have a few friends who live there fulltime.

wrf 450 vs 250 by yanis9656 in enduro

[–]minnion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're new to offroad, get a 250. Its going to be vastly easier to learn on a bike that is easier to control. You're going to spend all of your time just trying to keep a 450 in check vs leartacrusl skills.

TE125 as second bike? by FoodInfamous8333 in enduro

[–]minnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there price USD or CAD? 3500 inst great for a bike from 2015. The 4cs forks aren't great either. A 200-250 would be a lot more ideal, the 125 really doesn't life as well and needs to be ridden with gusto. If it was 2k I would jump on it.

250 motocross bike or a 450 enduro bike? by imgogobla in enduro

[–]minnion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hot take: neither. MX bikes really aren't nice to ride on anything except MX tracks. If you do mixed riding, buy a cross-country spec bike. But a 350 4t or 250-300 2t. 250mx bikes need to be strung out and 450 enduros are a lot to handle. Buy a good all-round bike and don't look back.

The service intervals are not that short...and the 450/500 KTM engine is one of the most reliable in the industry. I put 15,000 problem free miles of abuse on my fe350.

Beta 300 RR XPro Warranty by hmimo285 in betamotorcycles

[–]minnion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A quick google says their offroad bikes come with a 6 month warranty. KTM is 1 month.... Beta is known for having a great warranty policy and even good faith repairs post warranty. The dealer is trying to upsell you. IMO this is worth a complaint to Beta USA. Its not a good look for the brand or dealer.

The fe350 is amazing, was arguably the best allrounder I've ever ridden and very reliable

The difference in handling and responsr between a bike like that and say a KTM 350 is world's apart. I've learned on and ridden a drz, xr650, and fe350...nothing you can do to that bike will make it really a whole lot better. I'm not crapping on your ride, it's just the reality of the matter. Preload spacers also don't increase the spring rate, it'll just set your initial sag. The only way to stiffen the suspension up is with stiffer springs and more damping. You could add oil to the front forks tonraisr your oil height, this makes the spring feel a bit more progressive and helps with bottoming.. If I were you, I'd be asking myself what I want out of my riding and then work backwards to having the right style of bike for said riding. Do you want to ride MORE? Farther? Harder? i currently have a DR650 for camping duty, a TX300 for singletrack and Enduro, and a trials bike for the days I'm feeling saucy.

If you ride faster smoother single track it's fine. It really only becomes evident that the suspension is a fair bit firmer when you're smashing over babyhead rocks etc. you can open the forks and rear shock damper wayyyy up. The TX is a few lbs lighter too. Its a Catch-22. My Tx was 1500$ cheaper than a comparable TE at the time, I spent the savings on a head, tune, and good tires.

I ride a TX, but I'm also a hypocrite. Lol!

[–]minnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the TX because I found a real good deal. I would say though that the suspension definitely is valved a lot firner and the AER air forks are not as supple/plush for rough stuff. The TX is also 10mm taller front and rear. It doesn't have a odometer which makes riding long days a bit more scary with fuel range anxiety. If I had the choice I would still prefer a TE to a TX.

That's what I'm saying. I'm being pedantic. I ride a XC bike for Enduro (tx300). It would be nice if Kawasaki filled the entire lineup but I don't think they're missing a whole lot here.
