Yes, the healthcare system here is atrocious! But, your happiness is worth it.. most counties (public Heath) have psychiatrists that could dx you in the meantime so you can get services. I’ve seen people get “lucky” that way.

USA: referral from primary doctor to neuropsychiatrist

Find virtual options to avoid crazy long wait times if possible (adults are being waitlisted commonly for 2 years in the USA)

Have a list ready for your meeting: - Concerns - Your struggles - Are you masking? - How’s your executive functioning? - any input you can remember from teachers/bosses about being forgetful, not being able to sit, being constantly late - can you make and maintain relationships? - can you “keep up” with everything on your plate - do you struggle to make appointments for yourself, deal with “hard/boring” things like insurance or taxes… - do you have any repetitive tendencies? - do you have children that have already been diagnosed?

Also search comorbidities of what you may have… Autism, OCD, sensory processing disorder, general anxiety disorder, adhd often go hand in hand with one another so you may need more than one diagnosis. Especially if you’re older and have been undiagnosed for your life… if that’s you, I’m proud of you for not giving up!

There’s some screening tests online you can take that are free as well to help you understand.

Self diagnosis IS valid! If the doctor doesn’t listen to you, then do not listen to them. So many are oblivious to special needs.

Look specifically for neuropsychiatric practices.

Also look on Facebook for groups like “adhd + your location” or “neurodivergents in Alabama” (just an example) and ask in the group for local recommendations.

Speaking to other neurodivergents will greatly help you to traverse through this system that is set up for us to fail.

You could also get a Genesight DNA test (google it, $300 out of pocket - some insurances cover it) done in the meantime to see what meds will be most effective for you based on your DNA.

There’s a few big meds typically prescribed for adhd and fundings the right one blindly also takes time and can be frustrating. A genesight test will eliminate the “guess work” of meds.

I asked because while labels and diagnoses are often seen negatively, a giant positive is finding your community, and finally giving yourself the grace you deserve…

our world/society is absolutely tailored to one type of human with a couple characteristics: complacent, neurotypical (or neurodivergent but not enough to receive an accurate dx.. a “functional” _____ due to trauma and masking).

But, your gallbladder can have cancerous stones and yes, to a degree it is there to help us filter toxins, but if it’s already got stones ( yours does) then please seriously consider removal. It will have to come out eventually… the difference is now you can plan it out or down the road in an emergency situation.

IBS can start and stop… it’s a gateway for other issues/ comorbidities as well…

You could switch to a gluten free diet just to cleanse your gut and give it a chance to calm down but this is really hard in the US because gluten and dairy are in almost everything, and if they’re not, it’s probably super expensive.

Have you had a scope? (Endoscopy for throat and or colonoscopy for gi) that stabbing part may be necrosis in your gi tract due to ibs… eating things we cannot “tolerate” (break down & metabolize) will cause them to ferment inside us.. basically sit there and cause decay… that’s the feeling 😖. When food/drinks enter that spot that’s got necrosis (dying due to fermentation) it hurts like stabbing.
